A Birmingham Day Out 17/21

MAKING MUSIC

Centenary Square was really buzzing on the lovely sunny Sunday afternoon we were there in March and we stood and listened to this group of young men as they played their unusual mix of Accordions, Trumpet and Saxophone, with a backing track on the speaker just behind them. They sounded very good and I made sure I left them a reasonable donation after taking quite a few shots of them.

A fabulous shot, Brain.
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much Ray.
I am trying to imagine this combo's music. VG shot.
Brian Walbey: I can't really remember what sort of music they were playing to be honest, I was concentrating on my pictures.

Great shot and that is the way to do it, pay them and have the 'right' to get pictures.
we often do that too smile
Love the long shadows here.
Brian Walbey: The long shadows of March Astrid. Thanks for liking my picture.

Interesting - I wonder where they come from? I've never seen this combination of instruments together in Bath
Brian Walbey: No a rather strange mix of instruments, I did wonder if they are East European.
Probably a group from Eastern Europe. We have a solo accordionist plays in Droitwich..trouble is he only seems to know one tune.

Love this picture Brian
Brian Walbey: Thanks Bill, I did wonder the same as you about where they come from.
Good for you, Brian. I bet they'll always remember your face...and generosity.
Brian Walbey: I thinkmit is only fair, they are trying to make a living without begging so that's o.k.with me.

Good for you Brian - win win all round, you get a fine photograph and a sense of improved karma and they get reward for their efforts at making the street a livelier place.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Mike, certainly a lot of people stopped to listen to them.

An interesting combination of instruments. If I think such musicians have made an effort to play then I'll also throw in a bob or two. There has been some excellent ones in Winchester recently.
Brian Walbey: I used to enjoy going to Cambridge on a Saturday morning when I still lived at home in Royston. There was, and probably still is, a lot of musicians playing in the streets, a lot of them grads I suppose. I remember in particular a string quarter who were very good.

They look South American to me Brian, what sort of music were they playing?
Brian Walbey: I can't remember the music much I was busy taking photos, but I did wonder if they might be east European.
It is an unusual mix, Brian, good shot.
Brian Walbey: Yes a strange mix but they sounded good.
Would love a sound view now
Brian Walbey: It's a shame I didn't have my camera that has video built in.
This is a stunning shot Brian!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Richard, they sounded good and were very obliging.
An unusual combination of instruments - East European by any chance?
Brian Walbey: I thought east European Tom, 2 accordions is very strange in a musical group these days.
It is a really great shot of these guys!
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much Elizabeth.
