Coming Up In 2020 - 1 of ..........

This video was filmed at the Leicester North end of the Great Central Railway, formerly Birstall, and the whole of the station you see was built from scratch as British Railways demolished the existing station when they closed the line in 1969.

This will be worth looking out for, Brian.
Brian Walbey: There is all sorts of things to see in this series when it comes up, mainly not trains??

I used to work on these D95XX type locos when I was on the railway in the lat 1960s. They were reliable machines, built for a purpose, pick up goods, which was fast disappearing..
Brian Walbey: We didn't get these sort of diesels round where I grew up, North Hertfordshire. My Dad was Shed Foreman at our local station and back in the 50's., when I was a youngster, he would arrange for me to cab ride the pickup goods as it shunted the yard and done all the other jobs as it worked its way from Cambridge up towards London via Hitchen.
That's a bit of a beast!
Brian Walbey: I wasn't familiar with this type of diesel where I lived as a youngster.
Looks built for purpose rather than style
Brian Walbey: Not really built for passenger trains at all I suspect. CHris Phillips used to work on these when he was on the railway in the 60's.
it's a great train Brian... but the engineer left all the people it the passenger cars short of the stationgrin
....petersmile
Brian Walbey: The train is in the platorm it being an island platform on the hidden side of the train.
It's interesting to see the railway associations of SCers - my dad was a trackwalker.
Brian Walbey: My Dad used to drive a delivery lorry for some years and some weekends he went in from Saturday afternoon until Sunday afternoon ferrying the track workers, no doubt like your Dad, about when they done weekend maintenance work and then looked after their refreshments etc. whertever they were working. The man who lived two doors along from us at the time done the same job as your Dad, he walked miles every day I think.

Not a pretty thing is it?
Brian Walbey: No not the most attractive of locos, Chris Phillips used to work on these when he was on the railway in the 60's.
