Ffestiniog Railway Summer Gala - 2018 3/10

This delightful little engine is an 0-4-0ST Hunslet engine called Lilla which was originally built to work in the Welsh slate quarries, she ended her working life in the very famous Penrhyn Quarry.

Wonderful! She has probably never looked better.
Brian Walbey: She certainly wouldn't have looked like this in a quarry.
i am guessing this compact looking engine was not used for heavy duty hauling operations of a mine, Brian?
Brian Walbey: Well she was a quarry locomotive, perhaps used or the lighter duties.
She is a little beauty Brian.

Very nice but I wonder if she has the guts to pull a full sized train to the end of the line?
Brian Walbey: I suspect she might have been used for light duties, I can't imagine her hauling a rake of heavy loaded quarry wagons.
How adorable, Brian. I hope she doesn't mind my saying so, in spite of what probably was a hard life.

This is a beauty, Brian. Love the colours.
Brian Walbey: What we would call over here a 'dinky' little engine.
These little locos are a delight Brian

It almost looks too fragile for hard work.

The Little Engine that COULD! So pretty in those complementary colors. Great leading lines.
Brian Walbey: No doubt it still can Bonnie smile It really what one might call a pretty little engine isn't it.

What a splendid little loco. I bet it never looked this good even when new. I don't know if she had a full cab during her quarry life; many of the quarry Hunslets didn't and must have been grim on the footplate on "a soft Welsh day".
Brian Walbey: I've seen quite a few here and there that still haven't got cabs on them, it must have been awful for the crew in times of bad weather.
Lilla looks like she has a lot of power tucked into her little frame Brian....petersmile
Brian Walbey: Very probably Peter.
