Padley Gorge - Part 1 2/5

Padley Gorge is a deep but narrow valley in the Peak District, Derbyshire and begins near Grindleford Station at a stile where a post has been installed. Although the valley continues up towards Hathersage Road and Burbage, the gorge finishes at the edge of the woodland. The gorge is wooded with a stream, the Burbage Brook. This stream used to form the boundary between Derbyshire and Yorkshire.

An attractive capture.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ray.
It looks like many people crossed the boundary Brian.
Brian Walbey: There's a lot of well worn footpaths around.

Small children would love to paddle here.
Brian Walbey: Indeed although at the back of the picture the stream goes over a small waterfall.

I like this stream or brook with the stones in it, sportive people might step over them.
Brian Walbey: I think they must have been stepped on many times looking at how they have been worn down.
I would think it is a popular place.
Brian Walbey: It was quite busy when we were there on a dullish day in may so in the height of summer it would definitely be busy, the entire Peak District gets really crowded in summer as to the west is Manchester, to the east is Sheffield, and also Derby, Nottingham and Leicester are only short drives away, all big cities in themselves.

That looks so lovely and cool. It is hot again this afternoon in Bath - no air
Brian Walbey: It was sadly a bit dull most of the time. Today in Shepshed it has been moderately sunny and warm but not extremely hot, just as well as we went into Loughborough this afternoon as I had an outpatients appointment for my balance at the hospital and then we went on to Sainsburys for a 'small shop', guess what, it ended up a bit more than small!!

Looks just the place to be on hot a summer's day. I'd sit on a rock and dangle my feet in the stream.
Brian Walbey: Indeed I quite agree Alan, sadly it wasn't a sunny day, wuite dull in fact. I'll bet you know where this gorge ends up, at the NT Longshaw Estate in case you don't.
