Ashford in the Water 2/4

There are several wells round the village, this being the most prominent in the centre of the village just across the road from the parish church I posted yesterday and is a curious octagonal shelter known to older residents as the Bottom Pump. This shelter was erected in 1881 to cover one of the main village water sources. The pump mechanism has long since been removed but the well still exists beneath the modern structure which was erected in 1977 to celebrate the silver jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.

Those black bollards look a little menacing... sad
Brian Walbey: I suspect the general idea of the bollards is to deter people from parking on the surround.
Joli construction, j'aime aussi la maison derrière.
Brian Walbey: Yes it's very nice, and most of the cottages in the village are built from local stone and look very much like this one, it gives a nice atmosphere.

A charming image Brian. I suspect the judges would like this one
Brian Walbey: Perhaps they might Chris, I will have to give it a try sometime.
It would look nice dressed up.
Brian Walbey: I believe they have a carnival weekend in the village during the summer so I guess it might be decorated for that.

Can the well be seen jumping up with fresh water?
Brian Walbey: I think as a source of water it is now not in use Philine. If you look through to the right of the picture you will see the lovely stone bridge over the river which I am featuring next weekend. Alan is very familiar with where these pictures were taken.
What a delightful place this looks Brian
Brian Walbey: It is a really nice little village.

I was about to say the structure looks much older than 1977 but then I realise that's over 40 years ago smile It's a lovely setting and I'd love to live in that cottage.
Brian Walbey: The cottage backs on to the river by the little bridge where the old fashioned sheep dip is.
