Elsworth National Motocross - 3/4/1988 1/5

Back in 1988 I went to a Motocross race meeting at Elsworth, near Cambridge, and not far from where we were living at the time. This is a short series of images scanned from colour slides I took at the time. This one isn't quite as sharp as it should be unfortunately.  (Scan from a 35mm.colour slide.)

You caught the action well, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ray.
I like how he blends in with his bike - becoming one.
Brian Walbey: He was riding the machine as an official team rider for the manufacturer so everything is in the team colours.
Magnifique prise de vue , Bravo !
Brian Walbey: Thanks Claudine.
1988. Unbelievable, Brian!
Brian Walbey: My very earliest motor sport colour slides, from which this is a scan, go back to 1965, I can't face getting rid of them but I also can't think of a viable excuse to keep them either, a 'Catch 22' situation smile

1988 is a long time ago - that guy must be tired of hanging up there.
Brian Walbey: I rather suspect he might have landed by now Louis smile

A virtually mid air shot
Brian Walbey: I think most of the oens in this short series are.

Up and over.
Brian Walbey: At this type of motorcycle sport they seem to spend as, much, if not more, time in the air as on the ground.

I think auto-focusing has come on leaps and bounds since 1988. I prefer motocross to track racing.
Brian Walbey: It is much more difficult to pre-focus on this sort of racing than track racing, witht he latter they take more or less the same line every lap.
Gives a good sense of motion though Brian
Brian Walbey: Thanks Bill.

You have a passion for machines like this one - in your youth you might have been "ein flotter Hecht".
Brian Walbey: Motorcycle sport of any sort has always been my favourite sport, I was heavily involved with the sport, not as a racer, for many years including 14 as a commentator at the racing circuits. If the sport involves the use of a ball and/or bat I am not remotely interested to be honest.
You need to have steady nerves for a sport like this, Brian. Like how clear the shadow of the front wheel appears.
Brian Walbey: I guess the body takes a lot of punishment over the rough ground.

Perfectly centered on that tree and lovely leading lines and shadows...what motion! This has it all.
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much Bonnie, with motorcycle sport it is very much pressing the shutter and hoping the result is worth keeping.

you have decades of experience, shooting beautiful images, Brian. the timing is excellent.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ayush. I was heavily involved with the sport, not as a racer, for many years including 14 as a commentator at the racing circuits. If the sport involves the use of a ball and/or bat I am not remotely interested to be honest.
your focusing shows motion Brian... good shot....petersmile
Brian Walbey: I was a little dissapointed with this not being more in focus but the rest in the series are much better.
