Ely Cathedral 1/7

Ely Cathedral, with its unique 14th. century octagonal lantern tower, is counted among the marvels of the medieval world. Much of the cathedral is over 900 years old and it offers a rich architectural history, including the sumptuous 13th. Century Quire and beautiful 14th. Lady Chapel.

I like the mini-spires decorating those clever buttresses, Brian.
Brian Walbey: It is a magnificent building Ray, one of the best cathedrals in the country IMHO.
the contrast in this black and white shot shows off the architectural features very well, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ayush, I must admit the colour version was a bit 'flat', hence this.
Joli noir et blanc, on dirait une carte postale ancienne.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Martine.
Just now added to my Bucket List, Brian!
Brian Walbey: This is, IMHO, one of the finest cathedrals in the country, we used to live about 20 miles away at one time and visited the town of Ely, a delight in itself, and the cathedral at least once a year. I think your growing U.K.bucket list means a multi-month stay over here for you both when Astrid retires.

Oh, one of the most beautiful cathedrals in England I have ever seen - I like your image very much with the tables and chairs in the foreground for relaxing - but where are the people?
Brian Walbey: I seemed to recall you had been to this beautiful building Philine. The tables are in a tea room/garden and this was taken mid-afternoon on a dull day which kept all the customers indoors.

That is quite the cathedral and what a wonderful picture. It looks very inviting to sit at that terras and enjoy the view with a cup of tea and some scones with clotted cream smile

Very ornate - but they had a lot of time back then to build these extravagances. Some I have read takes up to 100 years to build and is handed from one master builder to the next, until completed. The fact that it is surviving to date attest of build quality. Great b&w.
Brian Walbey: Some of these wonderful buildings took several hundred years to be completed Louis, this being one of them. . We used to live about 20 miles away at St.Ives at one time and visited the town of Ely, a delight in itself, and the cathedral at least once a year.
One of my favourites Brian. Abeautiful building
Brian Walbey: We went there quite often when we lived in St.Ives, it was nice to return even though we'd been to one of my friends funeral the day before.
It is magnificent and I adore the seating area.
Brian Walbey: One of the finest cathedrals in the U.K.I always think Mary.

Brian Walbey: You definitely should call in and visit this place Alan if your travelling time allows.
