Droitwich - A Glimpse 4/5

St Andrew's Church stands on the corner of Droitwich High Street and St Andrew's Street and is opposite the old town hall. Parts of the building are Norman, and it is most likely the church in which St Richard was baptised and worshipped in the early part of his life. The church underwent significant rebuilding in the 1920’s as a result of subsidence, which had made the tower dangerous, so that it had to be removed.

You are managing to make Droitwich seem quite attractive, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ray. In the short time we had it looked quite a nice little town centre, one we could spend time at givien the opportunity.
I'm sure I've seen photos of this before! These are lovely - that clock is so great!
Brian Walbey: Very probably Elizabeth, we were not the first to be given the guided tour by Bill. It's quite unuusual because all the works appear to be inside.

Jolis détails de l'horloge et du lampadaire.
Brian Walbey: It was more interesting to take this small area then the whole of the tower.

The subsidence comes from all that brine extraction I expect
Brian Walbey: I would imagine so Chris. Hopefully it doesn't stretch out underground to where Bill lives.
The home of our world famous Lions Monthly sale
Brian Walbey: Yes I remember you telling us that. On reflection I guess it will be your monthly sale day on the Saturday of the gathering in September, perhaps you should offer a discount to any Shutterchancers in the area that weekend smile

Nice details Brian but I ha e to say that the juxtaposition of the clock and the lamp is not helpful.
Brian Walbey: I can't make up my mind whether I would prefer the lamo to be above the clock or not.

I like that this church is the home of Bill's Lions Monthly sale. I agree with Chad's critical point.

I wonder if that was a gas lamp at one time? It has that look to it. I suppose the subsidence was due to the brine extraction.
Brian Walbey: Yes I have the same feeling about the lamp. It seemed to me the whole centre of Droitwich was in danger of sinking a bit because of the brine extraction.
