The naked stonework does a good job of illustrating the builder's technique, Brian.
Brian Walbey: I certainly does Ray, it is a very old building as this short note suggests: The Grace Dieu Priory was an independent Augustinian priory near Thringstone in Leicestershire. It was founded around 1235-1241 by Roesia de Verdon and dissolved in October 1538.
I like the comp' Brian....It looks an interesting place.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Frank. It is a very old building as this short note suggests: The Grace Dieu Priory was an independent Augustinian priory near Thringstone in Leicestershire. It was founded around 1235-1241 by Roesia de Verdon and dissolved in October 1538.
I dunno - I really like the composition!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Elizabeth. Our November competition is for Architecture so I might enter it then. The only thing is the judge lives local to Grace Dieu, as do I, and it is a very much photographed place so I would be up against the best of pictures she has seen before and remembered.

Won't the judges like the idea of seeing through the arch to the other part of the ruins Brian?

I think these builders were taking the concept of arch design to the limit Brian.
Brian Walbey: At the time I think you are right Chad, but it is still there. I can see you point (as made to Chris), but this is very fine - perhaps you could sow it somewhere else, Brian?
Brian Walbey: Thanks Lisl, I will definitely use it at some time but perhaps during next year.
What a fabulous place!
Brian Walbey: It is Mary, and so sad tos ee it in ruins. It is only about 10 minutes from our home. The Grace Dieu Priory was an independent Augustinian priory near Thringstone in Leicestershire. It was founded around 1235-1241 by Roesia de Verdon and dissolved in October 1538.

Its amazing that the arch has stood the test of time yet the masonry around it has crumbled. I especially like the view across to the fireplace and chimney breast.

It si a shame to see what is left of it looking like this. I bet you have driven by it without realising it is there, it is on the A512 between Shepshed and Thringstone.
Don't see why not, Brian - it's a nice pic.
Brian Walbey: I might hold it back and use it some time next year.
