What Frank said!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ray.
They are certainly busy! Great shot of these men at work!
Brian Walbey: The Great Central Railway always turn their engines out looking good, mind you it must take ages, and a lot of elbow grease to polish one up.

C'est l'heure de lui faire une beauté.
Brian Walbey: Indeed, this railway always turns its engines out looking good.

Tender loving care then Brian
Brian Walbey: The GCR prides itself on the engines always looking good.
I like how the red pops in the shot. Busy guys.
Brian Walbey: That red is handy to we photographers in that we can turn the photo to B.& W.and colour pop the red bits, just for fun of course.
What to do once you retire!!! The best job o their lives, I bet.
Brian Walbey: Indeed Ginnie, there are worst ways of passing a few days every now and then during retirememt.
A labour of love Brian
Brian Walbey: Indeed Bill, although the GCR does have quite a large number of paid staff in their employ.
This sort of work is not my cup of tea Brian.
Brian Walbey: I wouldn't want to do this but if my health was better there are other things I might like to have done at the railway over past years.

You could have titled this Pride, because this pair exude that quality.
Brian Walbey: They do indeed Mike, for retired gents interested in railways they can do their bit and get exercise at the same time I guess.

I agree with Mike's comment!
Brian Walbey: They certainly look after their engines very well.

Dedicated volunteers I guess

One always sees older guys on these things - are any younger people coming along?
Brian Walbey: for retired gents interested in railways they can do their bit and get exercise at the same time I guess. Most heritage railways have a sprinkling of young people but I think staffing could become more of a problem as our generation passes on.

This always makes me smile, don't they say than some men take more care of their 'toys' than they take care of their wives wink.....
Wonderful picture. LOVE it.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Astrid. If my health was better than it is I would probably join these guys doing something at the railway, not that I would ignore Maureen of course.

I'm sure that these chaps take pride in their work and get the locos looking their best. Such a difference when compared with the trains shown on the "Great Railway Journeys" recently, especially when seen the aerial shots. The brake hose has seen better days, though!
Brian Walbey: These guys look after their engines very well. Some of our national network trains on GRJ could do with a spruce up.

This is lovely Brian. It looks like an old painting.
Brian Walbey: There's certainly not much to date it as a 2016 picture.
lots of spit and polish getting her ready for the Autumn Gala Brian... cracking shot....petersmile
Brian Walbey: Thanks Peter, these guys look after their engines very well.
