PEAK RAIL, DERBYSHIRE

J'aime les différentes couleurs de ce train.
Brian Walbey: The first carriage behind the engine is very old indeed and has been restored.

I suspect this is the ex Midland main line, another short sighted 1960s closure
Brian Walbey: Sorry I called you Alan, his comment is very similar to yours.

Now there's a line I would have loved to travelled on before it closed (under Beeching?) especially once it went beyond Bakewell towards Buxton. Did you have a trip on this?
Brian Walbey: It would have been a terrific journey right through the centre of the peaks and across Monsal Viaduct. We have ridden on Peak rail but it is one of the shorter heritage lines although it does now right into the Network Rail station at Matlock which is handy for visitors.

A good one, Brian, and I especially like the rustic fence.
Brian Walbey: Thanks ray. I think the fence is more of a token gesture rather than a serious barrier. smile

I assume this is a closed line... I read what Alan wrote... Love the red colour though and the landscape.
Brian Walbey: Passenger trains ceased in 1967 and complete closure took place in 1968. This line ran right through the centre of the beautiful Peak District and these days would have been a real draw for tourists.
I don't know this line at all Brian. i imagine it would be a very scenic route
Brian Walbey: It is part of what was the Midland Railway from London to Manchester which went through Derby, Matlock, Bakewell and Buxton, it must have been a terrific ride through the Peak district, especially across Monsal Viaduct.
I like the red of this one!
Brian Walbey: As Frank would tell you at one time, when he and I were only small lads, most of the railway carriages were this colour.
