A Stoke Rochford Weekend 3/5

The gardens at Stoke Rochford Hall cover quite a large area and are mainly set out in the style of woodland and paths with flower beds here and there. The obelisk, in line with the centre of the west front, was Christopher Turnor's memorial to Sir Isaac Newton, and its inscription reads, " May the inhabitants of the surrounding district recollect with pride that so great a philosopher drew his first breath in the neighbourhood". Newton went to school in Stoke Rochford parish before attending the grammar school in Grantham.

I like the mature trees and hedges, Brian.
Brian Walbey: It's a nice garden area, mainly like this rather than lots of flower beds.
I really like this plan!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Elizabeth.
So many important names and places come from your wee country, Brian. It blows the mind.

We owe such a lot to Sir Isaac Newton. I especially like the entrance gates, despite the Visit England sign.
Brian Walbey: Indeed we do Alan.
They should give you a discount next time for all this promotion Brian grin
Brian Walbey: I got one anyway otherwise we couldn't have afforded to go there.
He was a bright start that Newton Brian, apart ffrom staring at the sun for so long that he was blind for three days.
Brian Walbey: The most famous man from that area I think Chad, there is a very good statue of him in the centre of nearby Grantham.
Lots of lovely trees so very nice.

A beautiful montage!
"We build too many walls and not enough bridges." - a very suiting quotation by Newton.
Brian Walbey: A very true saying Philine. Fortunately, garden wise there are very few walls, it is open wooded land in the main. There is a very good statue of him in the centre of nearby Grantham.
