Around Old John 1/5

Bradgate Park is a public park in Charnwood Forest, in Leicestershire, northwest of Leicester and it covers 850 acres . The River Lin runs through the park, flowing into Cropston Reservoir which was constructed on part of the park. The park's two well known landmarks, Old John and the war memorial, seen here in the far distance, both lie close together on the high point of the park.

Superbe paysage.
Brian Walbey: Not far from where I live as well, we visit quite often.
smile A wonderful place, no doubt! But I think to use the term "Forest" is being a bit optimistic!
Brian Walbey: Charnwood Forest is a large area with open countryside and lots of woodland, I guess since it was named a few centuries ago a lot of the woodland has been cut down! My picture of a few weeks ago gives an idea of how this part is situated http://brianaw.shutterchance.com/image/2016/09/11/from-stoneywell-cottage-22/

It is a fine view of the park, which look like mainly pasture, Brian.

This is what I love about England, those hilly fields and the green and all the patches of trees. Great picture. LOL @ Elizabeth.

At 850 acres, Brian, it probably seems like the "whole world" when you're there.
Brian Walbey: It is a lovely place to visit away from weekends and school holidays when we older folks can have it all to ourselves smile Shame you and Astrid never get to our side of the country to be able to see it for yourselves.

There is a lot of well tended open space here
Brian Walbey: The rangers and wardens keep it looking really good all year round.

Quite a few people out for a stroll, Brian
Brian Walbey: In the summer it is heaving with people, especially the areas away from this hilly part, elsewhere there is a lovely wooded valley which I think I've featured before.
Old John looks worthy of a visit Brian.
Brian Walbey: I think Richard T.took you near to Bradgate Park when you visited while he still lived in Leicester, Bill seems to think you passed nearby.
I seem to recall going here with comrade Trim
Brian Walbey: Having some idea of where you went during that visit you no doubt would have passed by not very far from Bradgate Park, it covers a big area.

A beautiful area and it seems there are a number of paths for a stroll.
Brian Walbey: A very popular place to visit Louis away from weekends and school holidays when we older folks can have it all to ourselves smile
I love all the people out walking.

Quite a landscape, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Indeed Tom, the 'Old John' can be seen from miles around.
