Church Farm Museum 9/10

Next door to the parlour (see yesterday) in the farmhouse is this lovely dining room. It looks ready for one to just sit down and in a few minutes the maid will come in with lunch or afternoon tea. I find the Spinning Wheel quite interesting and what a lovely paraffin lamp on the table.

Richly colourful, Brian.

Two questions:

#1 Why is there a carpet on the table?

#2 What were the titles of the books in the cabinet?
Brian Walbey: I've no idea about the books, I never thought to look. The carpet is a very old fashioned style of table cloth, more decorative than anything else I think.
So many wonderful colours and textures in this lovely dinning room Brian....petersmile
Brian Walbey: Lovely isn't it Peter.
Quite a rich and beautiful decoration here Brian!
Brian Walbey: Lovely isn't it Richard.
Pure Victorian scene Brian
Brian Walbey: Indeed it is Bill, I could enjoy sitting in that room for a while.
I doubt if lace would be hung on a working fireplace Brian.
Brian Walbey: Indeed it would Chad, an old fashioned style of decoration.

Defintaely a job for the maid; get the fire going, too.
Brian Walbey: I could quite enjoy a meal in there with a roaring fire in the grate if it was winter.
They didn't go for minimalist did they. I like it Brian
Brian Walbey: Definitely not Janet, but isn't it lovely and cosy.
A very busy room with plenty to see. Funny to see a carpet on a table.
Brian Walbey: The carpet is an old style of table decoration as much as anything, I seem to recall my Mum had one which was taken off when a meal was being served.

How our taste in furnishings has changed, Brian
Brian Walbey: It certainly has but I actually find this quite nice, just like my grandparents houses used to be.
Very victorian!
Brian Walbey: Indeed Tom, but none the worse for that, rather cosy in fact.
