A Visit To Melbourne, Derbyshire 2/7

Melbourne has a very nice war memorial, that is situated in the lane leading up to the parish church and Melbourne Hall. I think I have posted an image of it before but I feel, by its very style, it is worthy of another look.  Sorry if I seem a bit 'hit and miss' on here this week but Maureen's brother has come up from Dorset to stay with us until at least Sunday so, weather permitting, we hope to be out and about during the next few days, as well as celebrating his 65th.birthday tomorrow.

Those youngsters have a habit of getting under ones feet, Brian.
Brian Walbey: he keeps saying he's old at 64 and 364 days, I keep reminding him I'm 71 in two weeks time!!
It is a very handsome memorial
Brian Walbey: Once of the nicest I've seen, many of them are a bit OTT I always feel.

Talk when you can then, Brian - at least we have your photos
Brian Walbey: Thanks Lisl. It keeps raining on and off so it's difficult to decide what to do, we spent most of yesterday at Calke Abbey, a popular NT.place near us.
very good composition
Brian Walbey: Thanks Chantal.
I have had two sets of visitors last week and had gone away the weekend before that so I feel I am very hit and miss these days.
Brian Walbey: Sounds as if you've been a busy lady Mary, but no doubt you enjoyed it all.

That;s a fine memorial and a fitting tribute to the fallen heroes. Enjoy the time with your brother-in-law.
Brian Walbey: Indeed it is Alan. We are enjoying our time with Ken, with him living at Poole we don't get to see each other very often, hopefully we will now he has retired.
After which Melbourne Australia is named, I suppose - or was it Lord Melbourne? smile
Brian Walbey: According to Wiki 'Founded by settlers from Van Diemen's Land on 30 August 1835 in what was then the British colony of New South Wales, it was incorporated as a Crown settlement in 1837. It was named "Melbourne" by the Governor of New South Wales, Sir Richard Bourke, in honour of the British Prime Minister of the day, William Lamb, 2nd Viscount Melbourne'
