Queens Park, Loughborough 1/7

Queens Park is right in the centre of Loughborough and is a real joy to visit. This visit was in early September last year. As always various sculptures by local artists are on display for a period of time and this is one of a set by Amelia Seren Roberts BA(Hons) of Loughborough University defining her thoughts on all those lives lost in World War One. You can read more about Amelia and the sculptures here

I love the framing and the bridge in the background.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Hollie, this is a nice little corner of the park.

Those flowering grasses really make this garden special, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Indeed they do Ray, although the whole flower bed looks quite nice.
What a fine spot... Wouldn't it be perfect if it was permanent? Very nice image.
Brian Walbey: This is a nice corner of the park and they have different sculptures every year.
A lovely photo of this beautiful garden - the sculptures are fluid and pretty... much more pleasing to me than some other war memorials.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Elizabeth. I like the sculptures although, like Louis, I don't actually work out how it actually relates to WW1.
Wonderful flower beds Brian! I quite like the sculptures.
Brian Walbey: Yes this is a nice corner of the park Richard.

Well tended with fine sculptures too
Brian Walbey: Whatever 'cuts' the Loughborough Council is 'forced' to make they do seem to be able to keep the towns main park in good condition as you will see during the week.
They are a beautiful design Brian.
Brian Walbey: I thought so too Chad, it's just I can't relate them to WWI, but then I'm not much of an art person.
They sit well in the flower beds Brian
Brian Walbey: They do Bill, this is a nice corner of the park.

This is wonderful, and I do love the decorations here.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Astrid, this corner of the park is very nice.
Because it is September, we get to enjoy the flowering grass. It is the best feature here for me.
Brian Walbey: Ray especially liked the grasses, they fit in well with the sculptures. We had some grasses at a previous house but they got out of hand, they were devil to dig up!
Nice one, Brian - interesting sculpture!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Tom, it's supposed to represent WWI, not quite sure how though.
I would love to sit there, read a book and enjoy al the greens
Brian Walbey: I'm sure you would enjoy doing what you suggest Chantal, except you would have to let me know you were going there so Maureen and I could take you and your husband for lunch somewhere nice.

Great picture. But I have difficulty in understanding the sculpture. Maybe the polished inside means that she reflects. In the pond the sculpture looks a little like a sinking ship. But how does it relate to WW1 and to lives lost? You see, I am totally lost to art.
Brian Walbey: I am also not the best at defining what 'works of art' mean Louis, I do like this, a fascinating shape, and that particular corner of the park is very pleasant, so let's say we both like the sculpture and leave it at that smile
A beautiful seeting for her work Brian. It's nice to see a young person participating on this occasion
Brian Walbey: Yes this corner of the park is very pleasant Janet. They feature sculptures from the University graduates every year.

It is a wonderful arrangement of flowers around this memorial.
Brian Walbey: One of the prettiest flower beds in the park Philine.

As often the case with art, what the artist sees and I what see are rarely in sync; this is a case in pint. It matters not, though; it is a fine view and very colourful. Is that a water display inside the sculpture?
Brian Walbey: I haven't a clue what this actually represents Alan, although I do like it, I sometimes think there is a lot of pretentiousness over modern art to be honest, to me most of it is far from being art!
