One evening in the 80’s my camera club at St.Ives, Cambridgeshire had an evening out at RAF Alconbury, an American airbase just outside Huntingdon. With only a few restrictions we had a fairly free hand to look where we wanted and this was one of the images I took of the tail end of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom F4, the type of aircraft being flown from the base at that time. I took it more or less against the falling light of the darkening sky and felt the title ‘The Sentinel’ was just right for this image.
