Oxburgh Churches 5/7

it is thought this church has the best terracotta tombs in England. The earlier of the two for Margaret Bedingfield forms a triumphant entrance screen to the west of the chapel, and through the other you can see into the chancel. They are massive, canopied and elaborately decorated in the international renaissance style.

Brian Walbey: Very striking and most unusual isn't it.
odd church interior
Brian Walbey: It is one of two tombs made of terracotta Chantel, most unusual but very artistic.

This is beautiful, I am sitting here and looking at all the small details. I wonder where they took the people of this 'grave', it looks to me something is missing here...
Brian Walbey: I don't know if there were ever any sculptures of the people on the top, it does look as though something is missing doesn't it.

Fascinating though this is Brian, the whole effect makes me squirm for it reminds me of mould, and I have no idea why.
Brian Walbey: Yes a strange colour isn't it, and I seem to recall there are some quite macabre carvings in there as well.
Amazing that these are terra cotta. Beautiful too.
Brian Walbey: Very striking and most unusual isn't it.

This is fabulous! All news to me. That table looks out of place, though sad
Brian Walbey: Indeed Alan, a most unusual church tomb. Tables etc. are the bane of photographers when taking pictures in churches!
Very interesting Brian
Brian Walbey: Yes I'd not seen anything quite like it before.
Very interesting... I've not seen a terracotta tomb before. Is that a scull & 2 angels straight through?
Brian Walbey: Yes it is Jacquelyn, there are several of those inside the chapel.
