Bakewell 1/7

Bakewell is a small market town in the Derbyshire Dales district of Derbyshire, well known for the local confection Bakewell Pudding (often mistaken for the Bakewell Tart). It is located on the River Wye, about thirteen miles (21 km) southwest of Sheffield. This Grade I listed five-arched bridge over the river was constructed in the 13th century, and is one of the few surviving remnants of this earlier period.

What an unusual bridge!! Lovely shot, Brian!
Brian Walbey: The V-shaped bits were for people to get in to when anything came along, there are a lot of bridges similar to this all over the country.

Very sharp...would like to visit. Very nice to have people in the frame...shows scale nicely.
Brian Walbey: The whole town, not just the bridge is a fine place to visit.
What a beautiful and unusual bridge Brian! I like the perspective.
Brian Walbey: Yes a lovely old bridge, still in use for two-way traffic.
That's O L D, Brian. I still stop dead in my tracks when I see such beautiful age.
Brian Walbey: There are lots of old bridges like this all over the country Ginnie, I guess we folks over here take old things like this for granted.

A fine survival, Brian
Brian Walbey: Indeed it is Lisl, although there are lots about like this aren't there, we used to live at St.Ives, Cambridgeshire which has a similar bridge, with a chapel on it! http://www.stives-town.info/album/st-ives-chapel-bridge.asp
Very aesthetically pleasing view.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Jacquelyn, a lovely old bridge but also one where it is difficult to take anything but the standard view.

A charming & sturdy bridge
A fine thing the Bakewell pudding but very sickly!!
Brian Walbey: This time we didn't get a pudding, but I agree, they are very sweet.
This is a lovely shot. I see there are mallards hoping for a handout and a fine weeping willow.
Brian Walbey: This is a lovely spot on the edge of town, you'll get more idea tomorrow.

Another reason I love England. A testomy to the builders that it survives to this today. I've been to the Pudding shop.. but did not get a pudding; I probably had cake wink
Brian Walbey: Yes there are a lot of similar bridges about all over the country. Actually there are at least two shops selling the 'original' puddings, take your choice as to which one you buy from.
What a lovely reminder of summer, Brian. A gorgeous bridge.
Brian Walbey: I agree on both counts Pauline.

This is beautiful. What a great bridge, love the arches. I am so glad that a lot of them are 'kept' or restored.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Astrid, things were built to last in the old days.
What a fabulous bridge Brian, and I love the weeping willow too. Lovely shot
Brian Walbey: Yes it's a lovely entrance in to the town.

Brian Walbey: Yes it's a lovely entrance in to the town. There is more about the pudding later in the week but in the meantime you might like to read this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bakewell_pudding

The folks, dog, and ducks, add much to this fine shot, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ray, not often I include people, it works well this time.
i missed this superb composition Brian... that is a wonderful ancient bridge... i like the reflections in the river....petersmile
Brian Walbey: Thanks for looking back Peter, it is a lovely old bridge and that day the conditions were just right for the river to look quite picture worthy.
