Breedon On The Hill Church (4/7)

I found the windows in St.Mary and St.Hardulp’s parish church of great interest so I was able to go in for a much closer photograph than the general one I posted yesterday. Above the chancel altar is a carved Saxon frieze with scrolls and animals. Above is a 19th. Century stained glass window with old and new testament scenes and a small picture of Breedon church at the bottom.

these are three very beautiful windows Brian...
not only the stained glass scenes but the marble columns and walls of the arches... then there is old rough stone above it...

Very beautiful, Brian, both in the stained glass and the surrounding stonework.
Brian Walbey: Yes a lovely little church Alan, well worth a visit should you pass that way at any time.

Victorian stained glass windows- yes, I can see Moses on the Sinai ... and above scenes of Christ's life - the AT is the base of the NT - this is typical for the Christian iconography. Chad is right!
Brian Walbey: I thought you would enjoy these windows Philine.
The stone is certainly a beautiful base for the glass. Very good shot.
Brian Walbey: It is in the main all very old apart from these windows.
A fine window which I guess is Victorian Brian
Brian Walbey: Yes 19th.Century Bill, but the rest is very much older.

A very fine window indeed
Brian Walbey: Beautiful isn't it.
Those lovely stone arches are the perfect framing for the stained glass windows, Brian. You are certainly getting some wonderful shots of Breedon On The Hill Church.
Brian Walbey: It is a fine church to shots both outside and inside, local enthusiasts must have done just about every possible shot over the years I think.
