Breedon On The Hill Church (2/7)

The Priory Church of St Mary and St Hardulph at Breedon on the Hill was originally a monastery founded in about AD 676 on the site of The Bulwarks, an Iron Age hill fort. It was re-founded as an Augustinian priory early in the 12th century. What remains of the priory church includes a large number of Anglo-Saxon sculptures, an ornate family box pew and notable Renaissance church monuments. This is the south facing side of the church with the main path leading to the entrance porch.

..and with an empty seat for you, too - I know you like to include these. Good to see the English flag flying.
Brian Walbey: They always have the 'Union' flag flying, long may it continue to do so. I included the seat for the very reason you said.
I like this view with the bench in front!
Brian Walbey: You know me and lone seats Elizabeth, I couldn't resist it.

Lovely solid stuff with nice bench. Did you photograph the sculptures?
Brian Walbey: I didn't photograph the sculptures as individual photos although somewhere among the many I took they are included. I'm glad you like the bench, you know me and lone seats, it had to be in the picture.
Very nice shot of the church and grounds.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Mary, this http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2315536 gives you more idea of the situation of the church.
I am looking forward to seeing inside Brian
Brian Walbey: Then please find time to take a look tomorrow Bill. BTW this is the way the church is situated http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2315536

I think we are about to go in Brian.
Brian Walbey: Tomorrow if you can spare the time Chad.
What a wonderful scene with this bench Brian!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Richard, I just had to keep the lone seat in, a favourite subject of mine.
What a lovely church, Brian. Lisl, Charlie & I would love to explore this one.
Brian Walbey: It is very popular with local people for visits, and they have a beautiful flower festival over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
A fine sturdy looking building, complete with obligatory churchyard yew .
Brian Walbey: It's got it all martin, including the lone seat smile

a lovely, quiet place and a bench for some meditation! Anglo-Saxon sculptures - Lisl would be enthusiast!
Brian Walbey: I also think you would be enthusiastic to go in this little country church Philine.
