From The Miscellaneous Folder

TREE FUNGUS

The tree stump with the carving I showed yesterday had some fine ageing bracket fungus on the lower part of the trunk and I took several shots, this one being the one I felt was the best. Bearing in mind I only used my little Canon 7Mp.pocket camera on its macro setting I was quite pleased with how well this came out.

It is a fine shot, Brian.

The camera you have with you is more useful than the one you left at home...
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ray, and your thought is of course quite correct. My 'best' camera was in the car but this one was more handy at the time.
I like this - so interesting aren't they!
Brian Walbey: This particular one must have been quite old, but it was certainly taking its time to fall to pieces.

A very good image from your little camera Brian
Brian Walbey: Thanks Chris, I bought it for £99 in October, 2007 and it has been a good back-up.

Haha - I thought this was a giant green frog when I first opened it. Well done Brian!
Brian Walbey: I guess from this nagle it looks a bit like a Frog.
Works well Brian. I have a feeling that small sensors in compacts are often better with less pixels
Brian Walbey: Well this camera does quite well, better actually than the Fujifilm one I bought similar to your little one. £99 it cost in late 2007, well worth the money.
A good sharp shot of this bracket fungus
Brian Walbey: Indeed Martin, not bad for a £99 camera now 7 years old.
that is some lump there
Brian Walbey: Yes quite a big bracket fungus although its days of looking pristine were a bit past.
The pocket cameras do a fine job. This is a nice shot.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Mary. This camera cost me £99 in late 2007 and I have only recently started using it again.
It just goes to show that expensive is not always the best. This is a lovely shot. Fungi are just so amazing.
Brian Walbey: Your'e right there Suzanne, I was really pleased how well this came out on what is a 7 year old fairly simple compact.

Yes, a company of fungi - a fine observation!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Philine.

It reminds me of a frog Brian.
Brian Walbey: Actually it does a bit doesn't it.
That's a really good photo, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much Pauline.
The little Canon did a fine job!
Brian Walbey: Indeed it did Tom, not bad for a digital one that out of date.
Small sensors do offer much better DOF, making them good for close ups and macro.
Brian Walbey: The DOF thing with digital is one of the main differences as compared with film isn't it.
this certainly captured a great deal of details, Brian
Brian Walbey: Done well for a fairly simple compact hasn't it.
