A Birmingham Day Out 12/21

PASSING BOATS ON BOAT FRIDAY

Back in the centre of things as far as the canals are concerned I managed to capture these two narrow boats passing each other alongside the International Convention Centre. Shortly afterwards, once it had returned, we took an hours cruise round some of the canals in the narrow boat on the right, most enjoyable, interesting, and worth every penny. I think I know of a lady who now lives in Hollandshire who would enjoy the same journey.

Nice, Brian...but, they seem to move to slowly for a bloke to ski behind them!
Brian Walbey: Lol. One could of course sit in a dinghy and be towed along.
Good catch Brian!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Elizabeth, perhaps Frank will take you on one of these if you ever get to Birmingham.

It brings the place alive doesn't it
Brian Walbey: It certainly does Chris, although for a March afternoon the good weather brought a lot of people out, goodness knows what it is like in midsummer.
You've got me pegged, Brian! One day I would LOVE to go inside a narrowboat, let alone go somewhere on it!!! smile
Brian Walbey: I thought I might have got you sussed out Ginnie smile I'm surprised that you've never been on one of these boats after your several visits to the U.K.
Seeing the canals in Birmingham restored is a great thing Brian. Must try a trip one day....we seldom go to Birmingham even though it is only 20 miles away!
Brian Walbey: One never seems to go to places close to home, and realistically I guess the centre of Birmingham is the part worth visiting, the rest of it, mmmmmmm!

A hive of activity!
Brian Walbey: It was that sunny March Sunday afternoon Mike, goodness what it is like in midsummer!

It is good to see a canal going through a city centre, or near enough, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Yes, apparently Birmingham has more miles of canal than Venice.
Superb capture of these narrow boats Brian!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Richard, and quite pleasant to ride on as well.
This is beautiful Brian... wow I have learnt more about Birming in this series...
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ronky. Birmingham is a very large city, second only to London in the U.K.and I guess it is full of history but not all of it is as attractive as the centre areas.

It's a great shot of the canal boats Brian... it's fun to do a Boat Friday now and then....petersmile
Brian Walbey: Thanks Peter, I don't usually take much that fits in Boat Friday but there is another one next week.

Sounds like a good trip; I should the canal history of Birmingham is quite fascinating.
Brian Walbey: It was a good day out Alan, more than I expected, and the fine weather helped of course. I have some leaflets about Birmingham's canals and they do have quite a history.
Sounds like an interesting trip
Brian Walbey: It was a good day out John, much better than I'd expected.
Sounds like a good idea!
Brian Walbey: It was an interesting trip Tom, the narrator of the boat was very knowledgeable.
