CLEY WINDMILL

Built in the early 19th.century Cley Windmill is a Grade II listed tower mill at Cley-next-the Sea in Norfolk, and is probably one of the most photographed buildings along the entire coast in that area. It has now been converted to residential accommodation and B.& B.is available as well as being available for weddings and other such functions. I took this at some time during the late 70’s or early 80’s. when our children were still small and we used to holiday in that part of Norfolk almost every year, it being only some two hours from home at the time.

I especially like how you have made a feature of the foreground grass, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ray. From this viewpoint it isn't possible to get much nearer to the mill from this side hence the foreground.

A lovely part of the world if the weather is ok Brian
Brian Walbey: Indeed Chris, and to be honest, even when it isn't short of the type of rain we are having at the moment.

A B&B! Do you realize, Brian, that Dutchland has only TWO windmills in the country that have been converted to B&Bs! So to show this one from your past is really saying something. It's the kind of place Astrid and I would want to book for something special. smile
Brian Walbey: I find that amazing Ginnie with all the mills over there in Dutchlandshire, if you ever fancy staying at this one just look here http://www.cleywindmill.co.uk/

A nostalgic week, Brian
Brian Walbey: yes indeed Lisl, this series of selected slides is going on for four weeks in all.
A mill on a mill, how odd
Brian Walbey: One of the most popular buildings to see and photograph along that part of the coast Chantal.

Isn't it great when photos bring back wonderful memories?
Brian Walbey: Indeed Pauline, I can remember just about every photo in this four-week series of golden oldie slides.

The scanner almost gives a 'treatment' look.
Brian Walbey: Yes it does on this one Mary, the slides of course are up to 40+ years old and they didn't have the same quality as modern slide films and that gets accentuated a bit during the scanning/editing process.

It is interesting to see such a Dutch looking mill in Britain! Ginnie and Astrid stayed once at such a B&B mill in Netherlands, fine occasions to use this old windmill!
Brian Walbey: On Friday you will see a completely different type of windmill near to where I was born.
A very unique B&B, Brian. I think it would be wonderful to stay here for a couple of nights while taking in the sights of the area.
Brian Walbey: NO doubt about that Beverly, have a quick look at their website, but don't look at the tarrif!! http://www.cleywindmill.co.uk/

A wonderful windmill, just love it. Ginnie said it all smile
I love your series!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Astrid, I would love to stay there but not at those prices.
This is a wonderful mill Brian!
Brian Walbey: Yes isn't it just Richard.
Aha! I recognise this, thankfully not changed much, but I wonder how these areas got on with the recent coastal flooding?
Brian Walbey: It seems to have looked much like this for all the time I can remember. I'm not certain but I think the windmill might be on slightly higher ground, but don't quote me on that.
A classic scene, Brian!
Brian Walbey: Indeed Tom, one of the more famous landmarks along the North Norfolk coast.
