Canal Collection 1/4

After visiting the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas (of which more in time to come) during the early autumn we went on to pay a short visit to Fradley Junction, where the Trent and Mersey Canal and the Coventry Canal both meet. I watched the female crew of this narrow boat, Ethel May, negotiate the lock and followed them along, passing this old crane on the way.

Everything looks so spick & span here doesn't it, a far cry from canals being shabby, as in my youth
Brian Walbey: Yes this boat was very well turned out, as were the ladies crewing it smile In my youth I never lived anywhere near canals so find them, and the boats quite fascinating now that I do.

Excellent...After the last 2 days of carnal collection, Maureen will be relieved you have reverted, Brian.
Brian Walbey: I'm sure she didn't think I might have had doubtful thoughts taking those pictures Ray. BTW this narrow boat had an all lady crew, as you will see tomorrow, I fear you might have caught me out smile

This long boat is a very long boat.
Brian Walbey: About average size Mary, although from this angle it does indeed look very long.
So good to see a long boat like that kept in such top notch condition, Brian. I bet the interior is maintained in the same way.
Brian Walbey: Yes this boat was in very good condition, I'm not sure, but think it was one that can be hired for a holiday cruise, in which case it would have to be very well turned out.
That is a very pretty boat!
Brian Walbey: A very fine one of its type Elizabeth. When you travel down to our West Midlands in May you will have to persuade Frank to take you somewhere that has a lot of these boats on the canals so that you can really get to see what they are like.
The return of narrow boats to Droiters was a great moment. They are beautiful craft
Brian Walbey: I'm sure it was Bill, I always enjoy seeing narrow boats in action.

A delightful scene. The boat certainly looks prim and proper. Good on the ladies for coping with the lock.
Brian Walbey: I think this might be a hire boat. The ladies were good with the lock, another shot of them tomorrow doing something else.

I like the English narrowboats on the rivers and canals! I can imagine that it can be hired for weddings or holidays.
Brian Walbey: Yes I think this might have been a holiday boat, they were on their way to Coventry for a couple of days so one of the ladies told me. You will see her here tomorrow.
A very picturesque scene, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Tom, it was a good day out, we called in here after going to the National Memoriam Arboretum.
Beautiful Brian...Guess the female crew rock then!
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much, I chatted to one of the ladies, see Sunday's posting.
This is a beautiful canal boat Brian and you have framed it perfectly... there is no need to emphasize the all female crew too much... you are opening yourself up to a whole lot of hurt grin....petersmile
Brian Walbey: Yes a fine looking boat Peter. You will see the lady I spoke to on Sunday's post if you have time to look in.
