photoblog image Passing Trains

Passing Trains

A while back I showed an image of the ex LNWR “Coal Tank” in this cutting on the Great Central Railway at Loughborough with a short goods train but later in the day I was able to capture two trains passing each other, the GCR.being the only preserved railway in the U.K.where double track has been laid for normal use. Ex LMS Class 2 2-6-0 No.46521 heads south to Leicester with the South Yorkshireman Saturday dining train whilst Ex British Railways Standard Class 2 2-6-0 No.78019 heads north to Loughborough with a local passenger train.

A rare and wonderful sight, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Indeed Ray, the only preserved railway in the U.K.with a two track main line, all the others are single track, it hast cost them millions of pound over the years to achieve this.
Oh I really like this photo! The train looks great cutting through the trees - and the steam is wonderful!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Elizabeth. you are slowly being converted to an ideal partner for a man who likes trains, Frank will be impressed.

Brian Walbey: Thanks Previ.
Ah,days gone by,Brian,an evocative shot,well captured.
Brian Walbey: Indeed Frank, the only preserved railway in the U.K.with a two track main line, all the others are single track, it has cost them millions of pound over the years to achieve this, and did you notice Elizabeth is slowly being converted to the ideal partner for a railway fan.
Great to get two in Brian. Lovely shot
Brian Walbey: Thanks Janet. Yes, along the line which is 8 miles long it is right place, right time to get two passing just where one is standing.
Two for the price of one! Superb capture Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Richard, this is the sort of sight the people who've worked hard over many years set out to achieve, every other preserved railway in the country is only single track.

Hmmm what about the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway, Brian? 15in gauge, too! Good to trains passing each other.
Brian Walbey: The RHDR was built two track and is not a preserved line Alan although I do get your point. This is the culmination of lots of work and money, no other preserved line is double track in the country.
Another classic Brian!
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much.
I'm very nostalgic of these trains...
Brian Walbey: Yes so am I, and I'm lucky, I only live a few miles away from this preserved railway.
A glorious picture, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Graeme, they do look good don't they.
