A Look At Lakeland (1 of quite a few)

MIREHOUSE 1/7

Below the Skiddaw mountain range on the north-eastern shore of Bassenthwaite Lake is the Mirehouse estate comprising the house, gardens and lakeside walks, plus it turns out a delightful little church, of which more on Sunday. This was taken outside that little church looking back towards the way we had walked across the parkland after passing the house and gardens.  You can just see the house tucked away in the trees towards the centre of the photo.

Again a wonderful view. The sheep and the Cross make a great contrast. Beautiful overview.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Astrid. This was a really nice country estate to visit.

Kinda gives the 23rd Psalm new meaning, Brian. smile
Brian Walbey: Indeed it does Ginnie, I thought this cross was a wonderful find, and there is a lovely little church behind me, that comes later in the week.
I like the way that you framed this with the cross on the steps Brian... well done....petersmile
Brian Walbey: Couldn't avoid this composition Peter, it cried out to me almost.

The steps to the cross mirror the side of the mountain beyond
Brian Walbey: They do indeed Chris, I hadn't noticed that.

Sheep may safely graze...
nice composition. i like the colours on the trees and the sheep are doing a good job of keeping the grass trim

A wonderful detail you did photograph - a staircase to the cross - staircases are also my week's theme - a lovey, pastoral scene around and then the mountain in the background!
Brian Walbey: We really enjoyed our time on this estate, and behind me is a lovely little church which I am showing properly on Sunday.

Sheep add a good deal to landscapes with their close cropping - much better than set-aside fields
Brian Walbey: There was cattle in this field also, they followed us along as we walked through!!
good composition

I've never seen a cross in this kind of situation.
Brian Walbey: Neither have I Mary, and behind me is a lovely little church, more of that on Sunday.

The cross as the foreground really adds to the scene beautifully
Brian Walbey: I couldn't avoid this composition, it was such a lovely place.
Nice.....
A pastoral scene in every sense, Brian. Brilliant composition.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Beverly.

Now here's an area that I've done little in. I like the steps leading up the cross. A pleasing composition, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Alan. We only found out about the Mirehouse Estate from a leaflet but it was well worth the visit, although the day we went the house itself was closed. BTW it's privately owned rather than NT.

You can't avoid the lumpy pointed bits in Cumbria.
Brian Walbey: You certainly can't Richard, oh that we had the energy and health to get up a few.
Great colour Brian and the cross is interesting also
Brian Walbey: Thanks John, the cross makes a really good composition point.
Wow, this is superb Brian! I like your composition.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Richard.
A beautiful shot, Brian. I love the trees up the hillside.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Pauline.
This would work well on a calendar Brian
Brian Walbey: I think your right Bill, it would sell well at our church made in to a greetings card, Maureen does quite a few of those with my pictures, they go very quickly and help with church funds.

Interesting steps leading up to this cross Brian.
Brian Walbey: I'd love to know why it is there Chad.
