photoblog image St.Leonard's Church, Charlecote 2/7

St.Leonard's Church, Charlecote 2/7

Dedicated to St Leonard, the church at Charlecote stands on the site of an earlier 12th century church, which similar to many others, was demolished during the Victorian period. John Gibson designed the church and Mary Lucy laid the foundation stone during April 1850. Erected from blocks of ashlar stone, a large rectangular dressed stone with even faces and square edges the church remains much the same as when Mary Lucy planned it.

Lovely glimpse inside, Brian.
Brian Walbey: I was hoping people would think that Ray.

You capture these images so well Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much Frances.
I love how you've captured the stained glass through this beautiful old door Brian.
Brian Walbey: This is just how I saw it the first time I visited, apart from a big "Church Open" notice I moved out of the way.

a photo I like very much -in general I like half- open doors! And I like the lavender pot on the right - a very fine church!

Very pleasingly built doorway, Brian and nicely photographed
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much Lisl.
j'adore ces couleurs
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much.
The open door makes this work really well. Most churches are locked up now when you visit them.
Brian Walbey: Yes I took this as an introduction to the inside. The first time I visited this church was after 8pm.and it was open then, mind you it is only a small village with nobody about.
The half open door makes the shot of this very elegant entrance to St.Leonard's Church Brian... good composition....petersmile
Brian Walbey: Thanks Peter, I took it like this as an introduction before showing you the inside tomorrow.
good angle and POV
Brian Walbey: Thanks Chantal.
A venerable door indeed.
Brian Walbey: Yes a very fine arch and I am wondering if they might be the original doors, that end of the church is very sheltered from the elements.
Gorgeous image Brian!!!
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much Elizabeth.
