photoblog image Peregrine Falcon

Peregrine Falcon

The first of two images taken at a local falconry last summer, this one being of a Peregrine Falcon. The peregrine is a large and powerful falcon. It has long, broad, pointed wings and a relatively short tail. It is blue-grey above, with a blackish top of the head and an obvious black ‘moustache’ that contrasts with its white face. Its breast is finely spotted. It is swift and agile in flight, chasing prey.

Beautiful shot of this beautiful bird. These and the Harris Hawks are two of my very favorites! Did you know Perigrines can reach 200 mph in a full dive?! Incredible!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Elizabeth. I didn't know about the speed but I can well imagine it.

The fastest creature on earth, or so they say. We have some living on local church towers
Brian Walbey: Then you get the chance to see them completely wild rather than in a Falconry.
proud, grand standing bird
Brian Walbey: Magnificent isn't it.
There was a pair nesting in Worcester city centre last year if I remember correctly. Magnificent birds
Brian Walbey: They are magnificent Bill, I believe there was a pair nesting on a building in Derby during recent times.

A mean looking bird Brian.
Brian Walbey: They certainly are Les.
The talons on those feet are something else! Very good portrait, Brian.
Brian Walbey: I certainly wouldn't want to be a small creature in those talons Mary.

a beautiful, proud falcvon, but looking dangerous, I don't wish closer contact with him, to be honest.
Brian Walbey: This was at a falconry and all the birds were tethered as you can see, but isn't it magnificent.
Majestic capture of this superb creature Brian!
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much Richard.
Fantastic portrait, Brian! I sure wouldn't want to be a prey being held in those sharp talons.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Beverly, little creatures wouldn't stand a chance would they.
Great shot Brian, fantastic detail. We have these nesting on the cliffs at Mawgan Porth, beautiful birds.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Pauline. It must be great to see these in the wild rather than a Falconry.
nice bird Brian
Brian Walbey: Magnificent aren't they Juan Carlos.
