Swanage Railway - Norden 1/7

Back to Dorset and the Swanage Railway, who held a gala event the weekend we were in nearby Wareham. This was really a flying visit to the other end of the line at Norden. This image shows ex GWR 0-6-2-T No.6695 running tender first into the station area with a passenger train and an unknown locomotive running at the rear.

Wonderful capture Brian! I like how you managed to get the bridge to frame the train.
Brian Walbey: It's almost as if the bridge was made for photographers, which it isn't of course, it is very old indeed.
Nice angle with it just coming under the bridge!

What a wonderful capture Brian... there wasn't very much head room for the engineer in old No.6695....petersmile
Brian Walbey: Thanks Peter, perhaps all the men were short in steam engine days smile

You won't believe this, Brian -but I have promised myself a ride on this one!
Brian Walbey: It is a very pleasant, not not over-long ride Lisl, unlike the West Somerset Railway down your way. The views at Corfe from the train are really spectacular.
What a great composition Brian
Brian Walbey: Thanks Richard.

It is full of period charm Brian. The Southern pedigree of the place being evident by the pre-cast concrete hut made at the SR factory at Exmouth Junction
Brian Walbey: The whole railway has an old feel to it still. Interesting you know about the place at Exmouth.
Nice picture Brian. Looks like quite a steep gradient
Brian Walbey: Yes I suspect there is a bit of a gradient there Bill. e went down to see 6023 King Edward II at Loughborough on Saturday, I'm not a great GWR fan but did appreciate what a beautiful machine it is. I will send you a link when I get my picture of it on to Flickr.

I wonder if this line might be adopted By NR Brian.
Brian Walbey: They actually have a link to NR Chad and excursion trains do run in to the line all the way down to Swanage. Plans are afoot, indeed works are also, for the Swanage railway people to run a commuter service into Wareham on a daily basis from Swanage in due course.

Nice piece of internal framing Brian.

Nicely done,Brian,a pleasing composition.

Would Swanage be named after swans, do you think?
Brian Walbey: I don't think so Mary, apparently it has had a variety of names over history, some completely unlike the current one.

I can almost hear the train !!
Brian Walbey: The driver usually blows the train whistle when they go under bridges or approach stations, the whistle on this engine is a bit of a feeble sound compared with some engines.
You've positioned yourself at the perfect place to shot this, Brian. Excellent capture!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Beverly. It's almost as if the bridge was made for photographers, which it isn't of course, it is very old indeed.
to 'shoot' this.
Brian Walbey: It's o.k.Beverly, I got your meaning smile
Lovely shot Brian smile
Brian Walbey: Thanks Martin.

The outlook at the front (?) of the train is unusual , and the loco runs at the rear - a nice perspective and composition!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Philine. The "front" is in fact the rear of the locomotive and it is running backwards as it hauls the train, there being nowhere for it to be turned round to face the normal way.
Very nicely captured Brian!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Richard.
Lots of interest inthis fine composition, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Graeme.

Nicely staged setting that does not seemed to have changed much.
Brian Walbey: Those old huts on the right are certainly the originals I would think.
great POV and depth with that impressive background Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Fred, the bridge came in handy for this shot.
Fine shot, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Tom.

Classic framing, Brian. I've never been to Norden but I'm familiar with plants to re0intricyce the NG clay railways to add to the scene. I think this is a NG line on the bridge? I was Corfe Castle on Saturday and had the choice of paying £6.50 for a single to Swanage or going by bus for free; I chose the latter! I did use the buffet car at Swanage, though.
Brian Walbey: Yes that little bridge is from the old clay railway Alan. Fridays picture enlarges on your theme a bit more. I don't blame you for using your bus pass, we probably would have done the same.
