GCR 6th.October, 2012 6/7

The GCR is the only heritage railway in the U.K.with a proper twin track main line and luckily these two trains passed right at the spot where me and quite a few others were taking photographs. The passenger train on the left is being hauled tender first by ex Southern Region Class N15 4-6-0 No.777 Sir Lamiel, which I showed you on Monday, and the southbound train is being hauled by one of my favourite engines, the ex GNR Gresley Class N2 0-6-0T No.1744. Photograph taken during the Great Central Railway Autumn Gala at Quorn.

good to see two trains passing each other like this. I was going to ask whether it was twin track throughout but you've answered that.
Brian Walbey: It is twin track between Loughborough and Rothley and then single track for the last short stretch to Leicester North (Birstall.) BTW I am hoping that Chris, Bill and Richard might join me at one of the GCR galas next year, I realise it is a long drive for you but would you like me to let you know if anything gets arranged?
not one of my favorites in this series
Brian Walbey: Not to everyone's taste Chantal although of the set this is the most authentic as to how it used to be and it has cost several million £'s/Euros to make this possible.

These N2s look sturdy beasts Brian. Didn't they work the suburban services out of KX?
Brian Walbey: Indeed they did Chris, I used to see N2's a lot of the time being an LNER man. They hauled local suburban trains ex Kings Cross out to Hatfield, where there was a big locoshed for them, and Welwyn Garden City, and also the branches to Hertford North and Moorgate, plus moving coaching stock in and out of the Cross.
Well caught,Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much Frank.
A lovely RR entourage Brian, plus grasses
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much Juan.
Lucky you were to be at the wright place at the right time Brian! Superb capture.
Brian Walbey: Indeed Richard, looks good doesn't it.
I can see why you like the N2 class Brian they look a very solid performer
Brian Walbey: They were Bill and of course I remember seeing many of them on the line into Kings Cross when I was a lad.
They look like friends greeting!
Brian Walbey: I never thought of it that way Elizabeth.

Nice bit of timing Brian.
Brian Walbey: Indeed Richard, it usually happens further down the line near Swithland I believe.
Not a sight one will see very often these days!
Brian Walbey: Definitely not on a heritage railway Tom apart from in a passing loop situation.
Superb timing, Brian. A fine scene. I really must have a look at this railway.
Brian Walbey: And a bit of luck thrown in Graeme. I'm hoping to get Bill and Chris et al up to one of the galas next year, I will keep you informed if anything goes ahead.
