Blickling Hall 1/5

Blickling Hall is a National Trust property close to Aylsham, Norfolk, and we paid it a visit during our holiday in early July. Sadly the day we went it kept drizzling on and off and so all five of this weeks images and the garden ones next week are a bit on the flat and dull side. This is the drive up to the main entrance which faces towards the South West.

Ooooops! You and Chris have used almost identical images, Brian.

Looks like my house!!!
Brian Walbey: I hope you haven't got the same running costs then Sally smile
Beautiful Jacobean building by the look of it Brian
Brian Walbey: Yes I believe it is Jacobean Bill, very much in that style.
A fine stately capture Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much Fred.

A beautiful piece of architecture Brian: we have nothing in this style around here
Brian Walbey: Yes it is a fine looking house Chris.
nice old building well kept
Brian Walbey: indeed it is Chantal, another one looked after by our National Trust.
That would be impressive if you were arriving in a carriage for a weekend stay. I must go and get my period costume on for this series! LOL
Brian Walbey: Hi Sheila, just found out you are back. I can imagine you and Maurice in your period costumes being greeted by the servants as you walk in to this fine house.

Now I recently read Wolfe Hall which was connected with the Seymour family - and I believe this was the Boleyn residence at the same period. Not been, so looking forward to the shots Brian.
Brian Walbey: Yes this was the house of the Boleyn family as you thought Mike, a fine place to live, and within easy commuting distance of Hampton Court, only a few dayssmile
A fine image for 'The Summer of the Rain coat'
Brian Walbey: Yes indeed Martin, a bit later, while we were having an outdoor lunch, it really came down for a while.

Good shot despite the weather Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much John.
Very attractively designed isn't it. Nice shot Brian
Brian Walbey: It is a very fine looking house Janet, in a lovely setting, when it isn't raining!

Good work on the verticals, Brian, and I like the symmetry. I wonder why three chimneys on the left don't appear on the right?
Brian Walbey: Thanks Alan, I always work hard on verticals with this type of shot. I guess the building isn't symmetrical inside, hence the missing chimneys.
That bloke is thinking: Heck the window cleaning bill must be huge.

Lovely place to visit Brian
Brian Walbey: There's even more windows round the sides and back. I presume you have been here at some time or other.
Majestic & sturdy. A fine bit of architecture, Brian. Looking forward to seeing more of your visit to Blickling Hall, especially if we get a glimpse of a ghost or two.
Brian Walbey: No ghosts I'm afraid Beverly, it isn't quite Halloween yet, they are still out of season smile
This looks a fine building, good shot Brian!
Brian Walbey: It is a great building Martin.

I think it looks quite bright as it is, Brian - that lovely brickwork stands out well
Brian Walbey: Thanks Lisl, it is very fine brickwork isn't it.
An impressive building nicely captured!
Brian Walbey: Indeed it is, thanks David.
Very nicely captured Brian. This is a really beautiful structure!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Richard, it is a fine house, although this time we didn't venture inside.
I really must visit. Only ever been round the grounds.
Brian Walbey: We only done the outside and gardens Graeme, next time perhaps we will go inside.
