Donnington Park Classic Bikes 6/7

THE OFFICE

It is many years since I commentated at a road race meeting and since then a couple of commentators have referred to this part of a machine as “The Office.” This is the front end of Andrew Taylor’s immaculate 350cc.Dunnell Manx Norton. It is one of a pair, the other being the 500cc.version and both machines are owned and prepared by ex racer Tony Dunnell who I can remember seeing perform with quite some success in the Isle of Man races many years ago.

A friend of mine briefly owned an 850 Norton in the late '70s, Brian...it was the best handling bike I ever rode, but bits kept falling off it.
Brian Walbey: Since the late 50's Norton's have always been among the best handling machines, but bits falling off wasn't unusual I believe.
It must have been called THE OFFICE because that is where all the business takes place during the race Brian....petersmile
Brian Walbey: I guess so Peter, mind you modern commentators thrive on catch phrases in all sports don't they.
You've turned "The Office" into an art form! There are some lovely lines and textures here!
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much Elizabeth.
cool crop like this, color sparkles
Brian Walbey: Thanks Chantal, it matches the title I have given it.
Do you ever go to the races now Brian, or don't modern bikes have the same appeal?
Brian Walbey: I don't go very often Bill, although I watch all I can on TV., and we are actually only about 10 minutes from Donnington, and 25 minutes from Mallory. For this meeting I went with my friend from back home who I used to go to meetings with all the time, including the Isle of Man several times, and we started commentating as a pair at meetings before he then went on to race instead. I reckoned it was at least 35 years since we had last gone to a meeting together and we had a great time, just like the old days.

I like this close in shot Brian, and the colours.
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much Chad.
I like the petrol tank reflections.
Brian Walbey: Yes it is very well polished isn't it.
Looking at it's bright and shiny best Brian
Brian Walbey: They are very well looked after Janet.
I love the detail in this image, Brian.
Brian Walbey: There's a lot to look at isn't there.
A beautifully prepared machine Brian! Reminds me of Café racers...
Brian Walbey: Very much in the cafe racer style Richard, especially the tank.

I refer to my mountain bike's handlebars as the office, too. It's where it all happens. This looks "straight out of the box".
Brian Walbey: Isn't the office here so much more simple than the same part of modern machines though.
Actually... it looks like the middle to me smile
Brian Walbey: I guess you might be right Tom taking into account the wheels.

Such clarity in this shot Brian, what a stunning bike, I love the silver tank.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Sally. The tank is very much in the style of those introduced in the 60's.
