A Dovedale Postcard

Taken on a visit to Dovedale, Derbyshire, at Easter some years ago, I have used this photo in several audio/visuals I have put together but not for anything else other than posting the original colour version on Shutterchance on 23rd.April, 2008. I was having a play the other day and decided to make an old-fashioned postcard of this popular tourist spot, I hope you like it. By the way does anybody know what happened about the Peak District National Park Authority doing away with the public toilets at this place to save money when it attracts upwards of two million visitors every year?

Many thanks for all your comments to last weeks postings while we were away in Norfolk. We were so lucky with the weather, unlike the rest of the country, and I have a large stock of images, some of which I hope to show you in a few weeks time.

This was a great idea to make a postcard of a family outing from one of your photos Brian... the B&W makes it look like a fifties post cart... sorry but i have have heard nothing about the public toilets in the parkgrin....petersmile
Brian Walbey: Thanks Peter. Apparently the toilets are still open at the moment so if you ever visit these shores be reassured you will be comfortable if nature calls at Dovedalesmile

Nice! But it could do with a bit of colour, Brian. [grin]
Brian Walbey: Grrr, there's no pleasing some people smile
They were there last time I visited. Shan't go again if they've shut. Bit too much of an inconvenience.
Brian Walbey: Great pun Graeme. Apparently they are still open and discussions are taking place.
I like your postcard very much! Can't wait to see your photos of Norfolk!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Elizabeth, I have some from our May holiday to post first, when I finish editing them, I took 500+!!
ha very 1950's feel to this Brian ...good stuff.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Richard.

Works very well, Brian. I've made no secret of my general dislike of landscape images in b&w but this suits well, especiallya s to what you were trying to do. Even the people seem dressed in older fashions. How did you find it so deserted?

I did not know about the toilets; that's absolutely crazy. I've used them myself even when not walking in that particular dale. Park Authorities often try to justify charging for car parks on the grounds that toilet facilities are available; does this now mean the car parking is now free?
Brian Walbey: Thanks Alan, I seem to remember there wasn't all that many people about that day. Re the toilets it appears talks are still ongoing over £17,000 per annum and so haven't been closed as yet.

I like this postcard, processed in an old-fasshioned style, very much - a magnificent landscape -perhaps I have the chance to visit together with my gardne group the Peak District next year.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Philine, I just know you would love the Peak District, it covers a large area and is quite different between one part and another.
Very nice Brian smile
Brian Walbey: Thanks Martin.

Dovedale sounds like an area that I should own Brian.
Brian Walbey: If you made a charge you would soon be a very rich man Chad.
A great 60's feel to this wonderful image Brian!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Richard.
