From The Competition Folder 26/28

A series of images I have used in my Camera Club competitions that I have not previously posted.

DEVON HILLTOPS

This was taken during a holiday in North Devon in 2007.  We visited Lynton and Barnstaple narrow gauge railway and this is the view looking out over the hills from their Woody Bay premises.  This railway was originally a classic cross country rural railway and a group of enthusiasts are slowly rebuilding parts of it using the old staion at Woody bay as their headquarters.  It has the best railway bookshop I have ever been to anywhere.

Looks to be in the middle of nowhere Brian, one of the railways I will get around to visiting one day.
Brian Walbey: It is out in the country a it Les, and isn't very long, but worth a quick visit, and as I said, a very good bookshop.
Nice view of the countryside... I think photo 23 is my favourite so far! : )
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much Jacquelyn. Photo 23 is one I particularly like as well.
A beautiful landscape here!!!
Brian Walbey: The whole of that area is beautiful like this Elizabeth.

Out in the middle of nowhere! THAT'S the place for a train ride, Brian, for sure.
Brian Walbey: It must have been a lovely ride when the whole of the railway was open back in the early 20th.century.
Lovely colours and I like the symmetry of the gates Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Fred.

A timely picture, Brian - we are off to North Devon next week, and will be in this area
Brian Walbey: I hope you find a few minutes to drop in to Woody bay Lisl, it is only a short train ride as yet but for all that it is very pleasant.
This is a very pretty landscape shot with very nice composition.
Brian Walbey: Indeed it is Mary, thanks for your comment.

Will have to try and get down there Brian know Lynton well.
Brian Walbey: It's not too far away from Lynton Peter, worth a quick visit.
Great composition & beautiful landscape smile
Brian Walbey: Thanks Martin.
that open gate feels welcome
Brian Walbey: That appealed to me Chantal, if it had been closed I might well not have taken the photo.

As a narrow gauge fan, the L&B has to be my favourite railway, although it closed before I was born, of course. I do have a large number of books about it. Woody Bay is a lovely location as you know and the station is beautiful, too. I can't place this view but it shows the glorious north Devon countryside well.
Brian Walbey: Yes I have read quite a bit about this railway and felt I must look in when I was down that way. Woody Bay is a fine spot and this gate is right through the car park at the very far end if I recall.
a lovely country scene that looks unspoilt.
Brian Walbey: That part of North Devon certainly is unspoilt Sheila.
And a very fine view on a clear day, lovely.
Brian Walbey: This little railway is right in the middle of open countryside, a very nice place to be on a fine day.
Charming picture Brian, i love the big open gates
Brian Walbey: One of those pictures that naturally fell into place Bill with the open gates, if they had been closed it wouldn't have been the same.
Lovely one from the heart of Devon Brian
Brian Walbey: Thanks Janet.

A lovely landscape - I love the way the open gates seem to beckon you on to explore further.
Brian Walbey: It is Ingrid. Yes if the gates had been closed it wouldn't have worked at all.
What a wonderful view through this gate Brian!
Brian Walbey: Indeed it is Richard, a fine part of our country.
A gorgeous landscape, Brian
Brian Walbey: North Devon really is a fine area of countryside I always think Tom.
The open gate bids us welcome and the landscape is like a patchwork quilt... beautiful composition Brian....petersmile
Brian Walbey: Thanks Peter, it is a lovely part of what we call the West Country.
The gateway frames the hill very well, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Indeed Graeme, if the gate had been shut it wouldn't have worked the same.

Nice carpet of flowering grasses, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Yes how fortunate they don't seem to keep them trimmed back.
