From The Competition Folder 23/28

REREDOS, SOUTHWOLD CHURCH

On 22nd.November, 2010 I posted this image and subsequently decide to use only the centre portion in a photograph for competitions in my Club, and this is it.

The first Judge to see it waxed lyrically over a print version of it and awarded it 2nd.place, the other Judge to see it, as a digital image, liked it but would have preferred 3 seperate images of the individual panels instead of the one as I have it here.  This image was selected for display in the recent Leicester and Leicestershire Photographic Society exhibition.

2nd place! You wuz robbed, Brian!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ray, but the winning entry was, to be honest, a tad better than this, you can see it here http://www.flickr.com/photos/shepshedcameraclub/6697068127/in/set-72157628893851151
This is perfectly centered and cropped! The colors are so crisp!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Elizabeth.
This is magnificent Brian and congratulations on having it displayed in the exhibition... i see that both Judges had it wrongsmile....petersmile
Brian Walbey: Well at least it has done me well Peter.

A fine Victorian reredos from the look of it Brian
Brian Walbey: I think it is Victorian Chris, whatever it is very fine.

You have shown it as it should be shown, Brian - much more meaningful than in three separate panels
Brian Walbey: I agree with you entirely Lisl, perhaps the Judge was not of a Christian persuasion.
You do very well in your competitions and exhibitions. Congratulations.
I can see how this would work in three separate panels, or even with the original five, mounted on a plain background. But I suspect I will be in the minority on this one.
Brian Walbey: I do reasonably well in the Club Sheila, not so much in outside competitions though. I like this arrangement but it would be nice to do a collage of all the separate parts of it.

Yes, I agree with Lisl - and in my view the best one is that photo you posted on 22nd November 2010- for we can see some scenes from Jesus' life as saviour - I like this one also very much! I assume this is Victorian style.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Philine, I thought you might like this one. Sadly Ginnie doesn't look in on Tuesday's, I suspect it would be her type of thing as well.

The relief work does not look of an exceptionally high standard and seems to divert from the normal colours for such scenes. It is nevertheless a fine alter piece for its purpose.
Brian Walbey: There is certainly a lot of work gone into this Chad, this, of course, is how people used to learn the Bible stories in the distant past.
Very rich & well composed Brian smile
Brian Walbey: Thanks Martin.
Fine shot, Brian
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much Tom.
It is a fine image of a fine reredos Brian
Brian Walbey: Thanks Bill, the whole thing is very wide and just as magnificent.
This is a wonderful image Brian. Well done indeed!
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much Richard.

What exquisite detail in this. Three stories being expertly portrayed.
Brian Walbey: It is a very fine work altogether Alan, well worth a look at if you ever get up Southwold way.
