From The Competition Folder 9/28

A series of images I have used in my Camera Club competitions that I have not previously posted.

INSIDE THE ABBEY

Very close to where we live is the Cistercian monastery called Mount St.Bernards Abbey. I have featured pictures from there before and this is taken inside the Abbey Church.  The Judge didn't like the "burnt out" windows at the back of the altar, I have investigated other pictures on the Web and been back to look, they are just as in this picture, had I have been sure at the time I would have put him right!

The windows look fine, Brian, but I might have deducted 1/2 a point for your failure to have Jesus' halo re-adjusted to the top of his head...its slipped down .
Brian Walbey: I'm sure we've all suffered from slipped halos at some time or other Ray smile
i think the windows are just fine and am looking forward to more from your competition folder
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ayush.
This is beautiful - The windows lead the eye down the isle.
He didn't notice the reflection of the window on the floor I suppose, which makes the picture for me
Brian Walbey: If he did he never mentioned it. Once most judges find something they see to carp about, they switch off about any other good points in a picture.

Without using HDR I doubt if anyone is going to get absolutely perfect church interiors - good effort
Brian Walbey: Thanks Chris. I actually have tried some HDR exposures in two churches over the weekend, I will see how they come out when I have time to process them. You might know the churches, one at Charlcote next to the manor and park, and the other at nearby Hampton Lucy, the chancel and windows in that one is breathtaking.

I like the blue light reflected on the floor Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Chad, the judge missed that.

a beautiful nave and an impressive Abbey Church, indeed!I love the magic- blue light on the pavement which emphasises the spiritual feeling when entering this church. In my opinion- this photo is worth a prize!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Philine. We found two lovely churches over the weekend in the Cotswolds, watch this space for the photos in due course. They were at Charlecote and Hampton Lucy, not too far from where you are visiting on your trip.
empty, like most churches here nowadays
Brian Walbey: I wouldn't want it any other way for photos Chantal, but this is a monastery church and is used by the monks at lots of times during the day, and despite it being out in the countryside their public services are very well attended.
The window looks perfect to me Brian, giving that lovely pool of light on the floor
Brian Walbey: Thanks Janet.
Before I read your words, I was admiring the light in this image! Very good Brian smile
Brian Walbey: Thanks Martin.
Personally, I like the way the intense light in the distance fades gradually along the nave.
