photoblog image Sawley Marina 1/2

Sawley Marina 1/2

Over at Sawley, on the outskirts of Nottingham, is a very big marina full of all sorts of inland craft but in particular narrow boats for use on the canals.

We called in there earlier this week and I ran a few shots off, while Maureen went into a shop, and am posting just two this weekend.

There is quite a large area where narrow boats are moored up for residential use, this being one of them.  It was the really bright red of this one that caufght my eye.

Lots of boats on our canal are lived in too Brian. I never anticipated that before it reopened
Brian Walbey: These people have a reserved parking area and small lockups apart from the usual electric hook-ups etc., very cosy.
this has it all, reflections, good light and nice composition
well done sir
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much Rob.

Excellent shot Brian and a nice sense of a crisp winter day!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Frank, we have a similar morning to day but no time to go back sadly, my camera battery ran out just after this shot!
Fabulous capture with these tones and reflections Brian!
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much Richard.
Very beautiful colors and reflection.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Sylvie, it was the bright red that caught my eye.
lovely reds, canal and trees that I do not identify at first sight. Some willow (Salix) I suppose??
Brian Walbey: Yes I can't remember the type of tree Juan, but perhaps Willow, it is right next to the water.
Brillant capture Brian! I like the reflections and the brillant colors. It is very interesting to see this houseboats up close smile
Brian Walbey: The red really caught my eye Frances. They are lovely little boats but it must be quite stifling to live on one, there is not a lot of room.
A real beauty, Brian. Imagine calling one of these your home and being able to cruise the canals at your leisure.
Brian Walbey: Yes it would be nice for holidaying in as people do but I would imagine they could be claustrophobic to live in all the time.
Super composition Brian, with the trees in the background against the sky and the reflections in the foreground. Lovely
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much Janet.
I can see why it caught your eye, Brian. Makes a very striking picture.
Brian Walbey: Yes indeed, thanks Graeme.

Everyone pretty much said it all... I really like the shot too.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Jacquelyn.
A beautiful capture, I love the whole scene, the colours the reflection, the sunlight on the black tar of the barge and the silver birches!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Martin.
A highly colourful image, Brian - looks like you got a pretty good day for it!
Brian Walbey: It was a lovely bright morning Tom and that red reflection almost jumped out at me.

I like the bright colour here and the cracking reflection. I wonder if those living on the boats pay things like council tax?
Brian Walbey: I hadn't thought about Council Tax Alan, no doubt the local authorities will come up with some scheme to grab the boat owners money.
