Round My Way Again - Zouch 3/5

Looking in the other direction from yesterdays picture these boats were moored up on a Friday evening and one chap I spoke to intimated this would be where he and his lady would be spending their weekend in the relative peace and quiet of the riverside.

A few of the small number of buildings in Zouch can be seen in the background.

Looks like a fine place to be spending time with your lady, Brian.
Brian Walbey: It is indeed Ray, and our Grandson was with us and he also enjoyed the walk.

These boats can be so colourful
Brian Walbey: They can Chris although this one looks a tad untidy.

Come to think of it, Brian, I think we have one of these in our town's harbor. They do get out-n-about, don't they!
Brian Walbey: Whilst not really designed for going far out to sea people do take them over to the continent. There has been a TV series of one of our well known actors, Timothy Spall, who is taken one of these round the coast of Britain in several stages.

A friend of mind used to be a captain with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary. Every holiday, he and his wife would go off cruising on the canals. He's now retired and he will be on the canals Christmas Day; I'm very envious. This barge looks like it needs a little TLC.
Brian Walbey: Yes this boat does look a little tired Alan. I wouldn't mind the boating but couldn't be doing with all the locks.
Now that's a nice barge/long boat. The artwork makes a change from the more usual roses.
Brian Walbey: Yes they have quite a variety of paint designs Sheila.
what an odd boat to me
Brian Walbey: Just one of our regular canal boats Chantal, only we call them narrow boats.
Narrow boats have become extremely popular Brian
Brian Walbey: Loads of them round near me Bill, we have several inland marinas which include "residential" areas where people live full time on their boats.
I think these canal boats are funny looking.
Brian Walbey: It's surprising how nice they are inside Mary, they are fitted out with all mod cons these days.

Lovely scene, Brian - I guess they got a good night's sleep.
Brian Walbey: It's a quiet spot there Tom apart from a sunny midsummer Sunday afternoon and there are a lot of walkers about.
A wonderful way to see the countryside Brian.
Brian Walbey: Yes at quite a leisurely pace Frances, the downside is all the locks one has to keep going through.
Nice place for a weekend, if you can keep warm.
Brian Walbey: Yes nice in the summer, but very chilly in the winter Martin.

Someone has hung a smiley mouth on the front of this boat Brian.
Brian Walbey: It certainly looks like that Chad, well spotted smile

You get out and about a lot in your area - it seems full of interest, Brian
Brian Walbey: Although we live in a small Midlands town near to several motorways and Nottingham, Derby and Leicester the area around us has lots of lovely places to go, we go out as much as time will allow.
I love your shots of the narrow boats along the canals Brian.smile

I'm going to visit as much as possible this week... i have given up trying to catch up on my replies.... i can only be online for about and hour a day until i recover a bit more....petersmile
Brian Walbey: Good to hear from you again Peter, thanks for your comment.

Christmas on a narrow boat, now there's an idea.
Brian Walbey: Certainly cosy I should think John.
