Long Close, The Return 1/5

Well as I promised on Friday quite a few of you seemed to like Long Close and its garden so I have decided to show a further selection of images from there this week and delay that which I had planned to show.

I'm going back where we started last Monday to Long Close House but this time a selection of just part of it.

I like this door and the bow window very much, but this picture doesn't highlight the fact that the door appears to be built in the chimney!

Nice! Are you now going to reveal the solution to this mystery, Brian?
Brian Walbey: Sadly I don't know the answer to this riddle Ray.
You have started off very well Brian... such a majestic old door and the stonework around it shows off many great textures....petersmile
Brian Walbey: Yes I quite liked it and took several shots of it from different angles.

That explains why the door looks likes it's been through a fire then, Brian? grin
Brian Walbey: As long as one doesn't have to walk through a fire to go in or out of the house Ginnie.

The chimmny door did look different last week
Brian Walbey: Yes it looks quite old and worn close up doesn't it.
Assuring visitors of a warm reception Brian smile
Brian Walbey: It does seem like it Bill, it would be interesting to see the other side of the door.
It is evident that the door was thought for Halloween, Brian. So the witches could enter by the chimney and meet the guests at the hall.

I must say architecturally this house has been altered quite a lot over the years
Brian Walbey: I agree Chris, hence the door in the chimney, very strange.
what a nice rustic door
Brian Walbey: It is and quite old and weathered I think Chantal.

Doors are a fine photo motive- and I like this old wooden door (built in the chimney?) with the greenery at both sides. 'Bow window' or 'bay window' as I learnt (bow window sounds morereasonable - to bow/bow = biegen/Bogen whereas 'bay' reminds of Bay of ...Golf of, Beach...)
Brian Walbey: Yes it is a bow window Philine, a bay window is one that goes down to the ground that one can stand or sit in on a chair.

A very Tudor looking door Brian.
Brian Walbey: It is Chad and well weathered by the look of it.
A gret picture here Brian, and so interesting to hear that the door is built in a chimney
Brian Walbey: I wonder why it is in the chimney, wouldn't it be great to see inside.
That's a very nice old doorway, Brian.
Brian Walbey: It is indeed Tom and built in what was a chimney it appears.
I like this more detailed shot.
Brian Walbey: Many thanks John.
The door must lead to some sort of entrance, Brian, as there appears to be a buzzer to the right on the stonework.
Brian Walbey: Yes it is the main entrance to the house Beverly, I guess there has been some alterations over the years.
