photoblog image Lythe Parish Church 5/7

Lythe Parish Church 5/7

The Lady Chapel on the right is most beautifully proportioned with a splendid vaulted roof. In its east window can be seen the figure of Saint Oswald in whose honour the Church is dedicated. He was King of Northumbria and one of the founders of Christianity in the North and killed in battle in 641. His Queen is said to have been buried at Whitby Abbey but his remains are interred at Durham Cathedral in the shrine of Saint Cuthbert who is here depicted with the King’s head.

Besides all your wonderful images, Brian, I wonder if you keep a running journal of all these chapels you visit?!
Brian Walbey: No I don't keep a journal Ginnie but I have put two audio/visuals together and have enough other churches to produce at least a couple more, sadly it is a limited subject for people to generally want to watch them.

It looks fascinating. I thought that there was a strong connection with Northumberland and now I know why!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Alan. Hope your long journey turned out o.k.
