West Somerset Railway 3/7

Following yesterdays posting a shot of GWR 5101 Class Large Prairie 2-6-2T number 4160 on its own outside one part of the locomotive shed at Minehead whilst it was being serviced.

The GWR 5101 Class or Large Prairie was a class of 2-6-2T steam locomotives of the Great Western Railway. They were medium-sized tank engines used for suburban and local passenger services all over the Great Western Railway system. The class was a modification by Collett of Churchward's 1903 3100 Class.

The building make excellent accessories here, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Yes they are probably the original buildings, or good copies, from before the government replaced steam with diesel.

They were handsome little engines
Brian Walbey: Yes I enjoy seeing these, I didn't see them when I was a youngster.

The amount of voluntary work that has gone into this has been tremendous. The Big Society eh?
Brian Walbey: Yes but they also have quite a lot of full time employed staff Cgad.

These were workhorses of the GWR, I believe. I like the grimy and greasy ground; typical of railway sheds.
Brian Walbey: Coming from the east I wasn't familiar with Prairies, they really are nice little locos.

Brian Walbey: Thanks Ginnie.
Still like this one the most
Brian Walbey: It is a nice little loco Richard, although we never saw them round our way when we were young did we.

Brian Walbey: A big boys train set Chantal.
These pictures of old trains are wonderful Brian. I have said before that they look far more interesting than modern ones.
Brian Walbey: They certainly have more character Frances.

The building seem wrong for a train good photo mate
Brian Walbey: This is how the workshops and loco sheds looked like in that part of the country back in the old days vintage, so it is actually fairly correct.
looks good from all angles Brian
Brian Walbey: Thanks Janet.
Nice crisp image, Brian!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Tom.
A fine engine Brian
Brian Walbey: It is indeed Martin.
Nice colour and shot Brian
Brian Walbey: Many thanks John.
This type looks very compact compared to others. Nice one Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ron. These are quite neat and tidy locos.
Everything and everywhere looks so clean, neat and tidy.
Brian Walbey: Yes they do look after everything Sheila, the station is right on the seafront at Minehead and the railway is probably the towns biggest tourist attraction, apart from Butlins!
