'Scene' Around Whitby 11/14

A series of odd bits and pieces I saw around Whitby in May.

The central part of Whitby round the harbour and shops is criss-crossed with a network of lanes and alleyways.

I took a lot of pictures of them, here are three of them in a tryptch.

I am enjoying your series of Whitby Brian. It does seem a very nice place to visit.
Brian Walbey: It is Frances, thanks very much.

I love to find the old part of a city where the lanes are too narrow for anything bigger than a bicycle.

This is excellent, Brian.
Brian Walbey: The oldest part down by the quay is riddled with lanes Ray, not too good late at night I suspect for the ladies.
Some good ones, some dodgy ones Brain. fascinating to imagine them a couple of centuries ago.
Brian Walbey: I wouldn't be surprised if they are not perhaps more of a risk to go down at night now than they were all those years ago Les.
Very nice triptych Brian! I love these little lanes!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Elizabeth.
Excellent Triptych Brian. I love these little alleyways
Brian Walbey: Thanks Bill. I wouldn't fancy going down these lanes late at night though.

The like their ginnels in Whitby I see!
Brian Walbey: Lsst time I heard alleys called ginnels was when I worked with some people from Leeds, round my way they are jitties.

Good collection they look very narrow
Brian Walbey: Yes some of them are quite narrow or come to a dead end.
That's quite an assortment of styles!
Brian Walbey: Yes and I actually took quite a lot more Tom.
Well captured Brian, and nicely put together.

These little lanes always look so olde-worlde and romantic, but often in practice they can be quite scary.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Sheila. I wouldn't fancy these alleyways late on a Friday night.
And all with their own tales to tell, nice idea for a series
Brian Walbey: No doubt John, many thanks.

An interesting place to explore by the looks of it.
Brian Walbey: It is Ingrid, the shops are a really old mix of lanes and streets with plenty to photograph.
Only in a winter did we see Whitby..sounds a good place for the camera.. Nice shots Brian.
Brian Walbey: It is a great place for photographs of all sorts Ron.
I can imagine sitting on the chair sipping wine..........
Brian Walbey: Yes I think that is a little courtyard area.
