From The Odds Folder 4/9

Watching The Show

On the occasion when this set of images was taken at Launde Abbey near Leicester there was also a display by a group dressed and acting as Vikings.

I saw this little group of children dressed for the part, and no doubt watching their parents, but rather than look conspicuous taking a front on shot I took this instead and for me it actually works better.

It does work well, Brian.

Savage young Vikings, huh! Pity poor Britain, when this clan is marauding!
Brian Walbey: I don't think I would like to meet this crowd on a dark night Ray smile)
I agree - but the success comes because of the two children looking to the side, unaware of the photographer. I hope you'll post a shot of the Viking parents too...
Brian Walbey: Thanks Patrushka. I took some shots of the parents but to be honest it was a very poor display and I didn't get any worthy pictures of them.
Good shooting angle Brian
Brian Walbey: Thanks Richard, I wanted to avoid being seen blatantly taking pictures of a group of children things being as they are these days. Actually I think this is the better for being taken from behind.

Brian Walbey: Many thanks Chris.
This works for me Brian. Delightful picture

what a marvelous angle
Brian Walbey: Better than a frontal shot I feel Chantal.
Definitely a good take, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Tom.
What a lovely and charming image this is Brian
Brian Walbey: Thanks Stanley.
What a cute shot. they are certainly rapt in what they are watching.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Mary, to be honest I didn't shoot from the front because of the way photographers are considered these days when taking shots of children.

Yes, Chris is right - a cute row of children waiting for their next performance or recreating after their acting - I wonder how big the shoe size of the girl on the right side is, perhaps daddy's shoe?
Brian Walbey: Yes her foot does look quite a biggish size Philine, fancy noticing that.
Works very well Brian . These little kiddies stayed natural in what they were doing. Looks like they had a lot of fun. Well captured. Lovely grass they are sitting on.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Laurette.
great shot Briansmile
Brian Walbey: Thanks Tim.

Lovely shot Brian, beautifully composed but a little too saturated for my tastes (you know me!)
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ingrid, a tad too much Topaz I think, the original was a bit flat as the day was quite dull at this time.
Its a great shot Brian, I really like that you took it from behind smile
Brian Walbey: Thanks Linda. I really took it from behind because of the taking pictures of children thing these days.
The absolute right choice to take this shot from the back. True little Vikings !!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Elsabe.
I agree, a charming natural shot
Brian Walbey: Thanks John.
Nice capture Brian, these Viking events do have a great air of realism about them, one of my favourite periods.

Off on a tangent the GCR is running a special event this weekend so I'll be back down there on Saturday.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Les. Actually the demonstration was pretty dire to be honest.
Re the gala I will not make it down this time, our daughter is getting married next Saturday and it's all systems go at the moment getting things sorted. I look forward to your pictures though.
Nicely captured, Brian; like little ducklings all in a row.
Brian Walbey: They do look a bit like that I agree Beverly.
