A November Morning in Leicestershire 5/5

Lunchtime at Melton Mowbray Station

I don't drive much these days so a friend took me out on 24th.November last and this short series is just a few shots from that journey round mid and eastern Leicestershire.

Needless to say the final stop on this drive out had to be for a railway and this is the station at Melton Mowbray where services are run by Cross Country Trains, the Eastbound ones heading for Stanstead Airport and the Westbound ones for Birmingham New Street.

We were there in time for these two trains to cross, both being timed for 12.33, although the Eastbound one was actually running a couple of minutes late which helped with the photography no end.  For enthusiasts among you the right hand shot has a very nice signal box in it, how fortunate it hasn't been demolished, the rest of the station, apart from the Booking Office is now locked up, oh and the toilets, thank goodness!

The problem with locked up stations is they simply don't encourage anyone to use the trains
Brian Walbey: There was quite a few people waiting for the trains, it was the jobsworth Booking Clerk who challenged me for standing on the platform photographing because of H.& S.issues that got up my nose.

What is it about trains, Brian. Even I love them! grin
Brian Walbey: Well I often see ladies out enjoying the trains with their cameras just as much as we men Ginnie.
The station has an uncared for look about it Brian. Nice train shots
Brian Walbey: Thanks Bill. Sadly there is a jobsworth in the Booking Office who challenged me under H.& S.concerns for standing on the platform with my camera taking pictures, I presume they didn't apply to the passengers standing on the platform!

What goes around comes around Brian.
Brian Walbey: Sort of anyway Chad.
It made me a little nervous seeing the two trains approach each other like that, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Don't worry Beverly they are on different tracks.

Nice choice of back-board here, Brian...the trains are very handsome, too.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ray.
A pleasant stop to end the day Brian. Nice couple of pics and presentation
Brian Walbey: Many thanks Janet.

.. so no station buffet then, Brian? You're be telling me next that there is no booking office nor porter! I like the head to head effect of the trains.
Brian Walbey: There is a booking office with a jobsworth in it who challenged me, under H.& S., for standing on the platform taking pictures, the passengers standing in the same place were o.k.I presume.
Couple of nice images Brian, the station does look uncared for
Brian Walbey: Thanks Martin. To think this used to be a very busy station at one time with routes to several different destinations.

A certain uniformity to this Brian - nothing like a jobsworth to make you day Brian. Did you take his picture?
Brian Walbey: No I didn't take his picture Mike, but I did politely ask him if I could use the Disbled Toilet, the only one, otherwise I might have been less polite!
A lovely collage Brian with great looking trains.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Laurette.
Nicely detailed shots, Brian. That bridge doesn't seem to leave much clearance!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Graeme. Yes you are right about the bridge.
There was a signal box just like that directly opposite my childhood home smile
Brian Walbey: Isn't it good to know some of these old things are still in use Tom.
I really enjoyed your series this week brian. Sorry but I am very busy these days and I can't visit on a daily basis.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Richard, I appreciate you still finding time to look in when you can.
