Great Central Gala Selection 4/7

I attended two galas at the Great Central Railway, Loughborough during the summer that I haven't shown images from as yet.  This week features a few of the highlights during those events.

I've featured the Gresley N2 earlier this year and here it is again on a passenger train at Quorn bound for Leicester.

Only this sole N2 survives into preservation. LNER No. 4744 (BR No. 69523) was built in the 1920-21 batch for the Great Northern Railway. Now owned by the Gresley Society, No. 4744 can generally be found on the Great Central Railway when it is not out on hire at other heritage lines. No. 4744 is also a film star, having played the part of The Scotch Flyer in the film The Railway Children.

Great picture and fascinating history, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Graeme, this takes me back as I saw these frequently when I was a lad on the line to Kings Cross.

Quite a powerful beast Brian
Brian Walbey: Maid of all work Chris, they hauled very long coaching stock sets into and out of Kings Cross with ease.

Toys for boys....and big girls grin.
Grand view of a majestic machine!!
Love it.
Brian Walbey: Many thanks Astrid. This is the only survivor of this type and I used to see them regularly when I was a young boy, many years ago!!!!

You are a real enthusiast Brian, nobody could dispute that.
Brian Walbey: I supposed it helped matters that my Dad worked for the railway and at school the London/Cambridge line ran along next to the school playground.
A real engine, great composition I like the heavy sky it adds to the mood
Brian Walbey: Many thanks Martin.
It looks like someone is ready to wave at you in the window. Nice looking engine Brian smile
Brian Walbey: They call these people "gricers" Linda and they are a pestering nuisance as far as I am concerned, they spoil the lines of the train.
Nice shot Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks John.

The Railway Children film remains a favourite. I think you've told us before that she build for tunnel work with the condensing pipes? A fine view of her.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Alan. The N2's worked down the tunnels from Kings Cross to Moorgate hence the pipework.
another nice one, Brian. i like how grown up the grass is around the tracks. together with the moody sky it makes for a lovely composition
Brian Walbey: Many thanks Charles.
like being next to a movie star, well captured
Brian Walbey: Yes indeed, thanks Derek.
Used to see these trundling past our front gate smile
Brian Walbey: Then you must have lived somewhere near the lines out of Kings Cross I presume Tom.
