photoblog image Southwold Church 7/7

Southwold Church 7/7

The parish church of St.Edmunds in Southwold is very Suffolk church in style.

Our final look at this lovely church is to glance upwards towards the heavens and this very attractive timber beamed ceiling and the skylight windows in the clerestory above the nave.

I have posted images of several churches of recent times but for the time being, at least until well into 2011, I will be moving on to a mixed collection of other subjects I hope you will enjoy.

A super shot, Brian.

Thant';s a rather solid-looking ceiling there, Brian, and looks intact...I suppose that indicates no-one from here has broken through and made it to heaven, heh!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ray, perhaps they might find an alternative route, mind you what it would be I have no idea smile

Amazing woodwork here, wonderful symmetry, wonderful colours, it pays to look up every once in a while.
Brian Walbey: It does indeed Astrid. (I read from Ginnies blog you are about to start a new job. May I offer you best wishes in your new career.)
You certainly had some great shots of this fine building Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ron, it is a fine church for photos.
Fine bit of timbering!
Brian Walbey: It is indeed Tom.
Excellent series on Southwold Brian ... I'll have to visit the place sometime.

Yes, a very impressively painted ceiling -the golden stars of heaven and the angels - your photo is really appropriate to the 1st Advent Sunday! How often I glanced upwards towards the ceilings in English churches (St. Cuthbert/ Wells, Exeter Cathedral ...)! Will the whole ceiling be restored one day? - NT should be interested in that object to support this church!
Brian Walbey: I don't know if the ongoing works at the moment are on the outside only Philine but sadly NT don't own this church so it is down to the parisioners to raise funds for any required restoration projects presumably.
Very impressive roof indeed Brian.
Brian Walbey: It is indeed Sheila, thanks.
Well worth looking up Brian. Very impressive
Brian Walbey: Thanks Janet.
Always enjoy your church pictures Brian, but then I love taking them too, so it is always interesting to nick other people's ideas
Brian Walbey: Many thanks Bill.

Wonderful isn't it!
Brian Walbey: Yes it is Chris.
What a magnificent roof Brian. It would cost a fortune to replace should it ever need it.
Brian Walbey: I'm sure it would Pamela.
A more than worthy ending to this marvellous series, Brian. Our eyes directed upwards to see the superb workmanship of this timber beamed ceiling. Wonderful.
Brian Walbey: Many thanks Beverly.
