Southwold Church 2/7

The parish church of St.Edmunds in Southwold is very Suffolk church in style.

Looking out of the chancel towards the west this is a view looking down the aisle and isn't that just one magnificent font cover.

Excellent!

Love the floor!

Eerrr...wots' a "font cover", then, Guv?
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ray. The font cover is that tall spiky thing covering the stone font at the end of the nave.
I do like that water font Brian. A lovely churh and well worn by the looks of things.
Brian Walbey: It is a lovely church Scotia, more to come during the week.
It is very grand indeed, Brian. This is how I like churches - proper pews, a proper font, a well worn aisle. (:o)
Brian Walbey: Couldn't agree more Rosalyn, I'm not too happy with rows of modern chairs instead of pews myself.
Fine image of this church interior,I never did get inside to see all this.
Brian Walbey: What a shame Martin, you missed a fine building.

That font cover is fantastic Brian
Brian Walbey: I now realise I should have taken a shot of the font on its own Chris.
A very impressive font cover indeed. But so are the carving on the end of the pews.
Brian Walbey: The whole church is impressive as you will see on Friday Sheila.
lovely and respectful
Brian Walbey: Yes indeed. Thanks Chantal.

A lovely symmetry to this, Brian. I would imagine churches are getting ready for Christmas now.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Alan. Yes I guess they are, it is Advent on Sunday.

Yes, a magnificent church - the font cover looks captivating indeed! But what did happen to the lighting of the glass windows in the background? I suppose there is a gift shop. Wonderful the pews! Often I saw flags hanging in English churches- what does mean that?
Brian Walbey: I'm afraid the windows are what we call "burnt out" Philine, it is difficult to get them just right on a general view like this. I don't remember a gift shop as such. Lots of churches have flags for all sorts of things. I think this is a British Legion flag, but some churches have flags for local Lords and nobility etc.
Excellent shot, Brian - curiously, that looks a bit like the arms of the university of Sheffield at the font!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Tom. I couldn't say about the coat of arms.
I wonder how many brides have set out on this journey.
Brian Walbey: Many hundreds I should think Chad.
I have never seen such a great font cover, they must be very proud of it smile
Brian Walbey: I'm sure they are Linda.
Well taken Brian..An impressive place.
Brian Walbey: It is indeed Ron.

A fine looking interior Brian, well caught.
Brian Walbey: Many thanks Les.
One could spend a good deal of time exploring this parish church, Brian. Lovely shot of the interior.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Beverly, I had only a little time but have posted images up to Sunday of this lovely church.
