photoblog image Somerleyton Church 4/5

Somerleyton Church 4/5

Our July holiday to Suffolk saw a days visit to Somerleyton, near Lowestoft.  There is a lovely little church on the edge of the estate, the "big" house of which you will see commencing 25th.October.

Here are two general shots taken from the back of St.Marys church looking forward and then from the chancel steps looking towards the back.  Notice the gallery in which the organ is installed above ground level, presumably to give more room at ground level.

You can just make out Maureen signing the Visitors Book.

It's not as ornate as I thought it would be inside Brian but the screen looks good
Brian Walbey: You will see a better view of the screen tomorrow Chris.
Well worth waiting for brian, a beautiful church, full of history.I can spend many hours exploring these churches & reading the history, much to my kids annoyance.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Tim. I enjoy exploring and photographing churches, I am showing another from near here in 3 weeks time that is even older.
I really like the simplicity of the inside Brian! You captured it very nicely.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Richard.
Pretty Brian. And lovely windows.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Sheila. Tomorrow you will see the windows in all their glory.
