'Scene' in Dorset - Swanage 5/7

This is the final week of this "longish" series comprising a variety of subjects and shots I took during our April visit to Dorset for our nephews wedding.

St Mary's is the historic Parish Church of Swanage; the present building, dating from 1860 and 1901 replaces the medieval building, of which the fourteenth century tower - with its ring of eight bells - is all that remains, though some of the monuments were transferred from the old building. Among the windows, the east window and the Creation window are fine examples from the mid- and late-twentieth century.

What an ornate and gorgeous interior.
Brian Walbey: It is a lovely church ray and in some respects quite unusual in that in the side chapel the altar has the church organ directly behind it, (picture bottom right), I have never seen that before.
A very impressive church, and a good collage.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Sheila.

Very nice Brian. I'm amazed I haven't visited this church myself!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Chris. It is just a bit further up the road on the left past the big supermarket next to the station.

This is a very beautiful church there is lots of detail all around we have spoke about how the builders of these amazing places are works of art dont you think.
Brian Walbey: It is a lovely church especially considering a lot of it isn't very old in church terms Cheryl.

another great set of shots collaged together, like this format
Brian Walbey: Thanks Derek, I prefer to present churches in this way if possible rather than a series at which some viewers might become bored.
